Sorry to revisit this topic, but how noisy should the fuel pump be and still be within "acceptable" limits?

Mine's noisy as all get out except, occasionally, just after I top off the tank. My dealer (of course) tells me the noise is "normal". I'm running out of my first year of warranty, so I'd like to know if they're feeding me a line or not.

Mine quieted down after I had the dealer check the fuel pressure. Talking with the tech that worked on it later on, he thought that it was possible we had bled some trapped air out of the fuell system in the process, hence the quieter operation.

If I were going to contribute one thing to this, I'd suggest.....The sounds you are hearing is not the pump whining... it is the fuel being passed through the fuel pressure regulator.

The pump it's self is not given to making any noise.

Sounds from the pump area, like results of Clearasil, can and will vary from bike to bike.

Sounds it's self is not a reason to worry...unless it's a THUD followed by a flash.

Of course, I could be wrong....

I'd be curious to find out what happens to that noise if you open the fuel cap while the motor is running...

Hmm, interesting question, Saro. I'll see about it.

Court - I'm not overly concerned about the noise being a problem (I've been dealing with it since last May after all and the 'bolt's running great), I just wanted to see if there was anything I could do, or have done, to quite it down a bit. It's LOUD.

What you're saying does jibe with XB9's comment, too. Maybe a fuel-pressure check is in my future.

Thanks, guys,
