Go ride your buddy's bike, trade for a day and you will love you Buell even more. I would like an I4 for the track but that is about it.(until I can get my hands on a XBRR)

Well I happen to have a friend that bought the 06 GSX-R600 and I have ridden it. The truth is this particular bike is not slow or lacking below 6K rpm.

Really? Cuz I have rode the 600, 750, and 1000 and the only one that even stirred my senses below 8k was the 1000, the 750 was close and that would be my choice, but it would still never catch my Buell in the N. Ga mountains! Now go and try to wheelie that 600 below 8k......I really doubt you will ever get it up!

I have real world experience on both now, and love them for what they both can and cannot do!, the 'bolt will be handed it's ass on any track, anywhere,at any time; if given equal riders, that being said I would never think of riding my R6 to Laguna Seca,(never make it out of Texas, be so sore!), and that's even 'tho the bolt feels like a more race riding position!
Givin all, keep them both, do not complain, ride hard, ride fast!

R6 Handing it to a 'bolt... on the freeway maybe.

I ride with a 04 and 05 R6. 05 is completely stock, 04 has some mods. I can out-maneuver them, out-accelerate (from stop), out-attract people, and finally out-ride.

Seriously though, after riding 1K with 2 R6's the only thing they have on the Buell (12S) is top-speed, and upper MPH acceleration.

Yes, I've ridden the R6's... they are nice in their own right; too much shifting for my liking. It depends where you intend to ride.

A bike is like religion. Find one that fits you. All that matters is you have one when the time comes...

The truth is most race replica bikes have outstanding power and but a high learning curve. The nippon set kawi hond yama suzu all can indeed in the right hands mop a buell but put same skilled rider on a buell around the same familiar track and you will see he/she lowered their lap time. Once they became familiar with the bikes brakes the xbr's can corner inside of an r1 and to match up fairly a 1350cc can match a 600 i4 and run with a 750 -1000 cc now the horsepower figures are never gonna go toe to toe but the torque figures are the same. That is why the v-twins are allowed to go as far as 1500cc's to be competitive but can you imagine xb15r 165-185 horses 152-175 foot/pounds of torque and totally out of control it will never keep both wheels on the ground

The only thrills I got outa my IL-4's was acceleration and top speed. Too many close calls and speeding tickets for me. Like everyone else, torque, handling, instant power off idle, looks, uniqueness, american made, ease of maintenance, etc... are the reasons I own 2 Buells and not 1 Buell and an IL-4. Buy what you want and ride.

I had my shifter go out on me and couldn't down shift the bike out of 5th gear.
The Buell had the torque to get me home with a little slipping of the clutch off of
stops. Not something I'd want to try on an IL4 600 of any stripe.

The current crop of 600s have power, but you have to rev them so high to access it
that it acts as a beacon for LEO's to zero in on you, where even with my Jardine I
can lope away from stops and stay in stealth mode around town. Of course part of
that could be the younger riders revving them to 16k in town on purpose. I use to
do that on my old gixxer with it's Yoshimura. It made a glorious noise!

I have not been able to ride any of the new 600s for the last 2 years, but before
that I rode them all. Top end HP is nice, but around town low-mid range torque is
where it's at, at least for me.

Holling, If you'd like a real treat, try and find someone that's got a new Suzuki GSXR 750.
A buddy of mine just bought one (He also has an XB12R!) and it's probably the most amazing bike I've ever ridden.
Unbelievably small, handles like a GP bike and God Awful FAST.

Yes, the Gixxer. It's the best handling bike I've ever ridden & I've been riding & racing for close to 35 years.

You're here because your new bike, if you have more than a fantasy photo of it, is not getting you the attention you crave, so you're here trying to get it any way you can.

Holling,
Ed please please please since you have a 9, Build us a real street Killer instead so we all can gloat. Start with the 90" jug Kit $998 bucks, Get the Throttle body Bored and Dyno tuned with a chip. Then put on the Big Headers and flow pipe but keep everything else kinda stock looking except for putting on some higher XB12R foot pegs for more clearance. And don't tell a sole what you did. Then KILL EM ALL......TAKE NO PRISONERS !!!!!!! I romped a BUSA light to light the other day on my 12R, maybe he didn't know what he was doing or something, But can you imagine what you could do with about 100 plus ft/#'s of Torque.

Nice bike Lions. Good color choice. My old ZX-7 was the black with charcoal and red lettering. I loved my ZX when I had it. But as I have grown a bit older, my motorcycling needs have shifted. I know that I am way happier now with my Buell than I would be with a ZX. However, I know that my Buell wouldn't have matched my needs 15 years ago as well as the ZX.

Peace dude

My buddy says "Bring it on!"
AND, he's serious! Have to warn you though, he's been racing even longer than me. Even said he'd use his own Buell if you prefer, just to give you a chance.
The Busa is making 141 NM torque at 7K RPM AND over 175 HP.
If you blew one off, the guy would have to be the squid of all squids!

I would love to see that GSXR 750 versus a Buell race. I love my Buell, but I'm going to have to side with the 750. That is way to much power to weight to contend with. The brand new GSXRs are some of the best handling and most powerfull streetbikes ever made, and I hate to say it, but the poor Buell doesn't have a chance. Equal riders on those two bikes the Buell will lose every time. I hope if pinks are on the line the Buell guy is a way better rider or he knows the area a lot better than the guy on the GSXR. Flame on, just my .02.

Well I read about half of these posts... now I'm starting to think there are some school girls from some Jr. High, in a suburban town, logging onto BADWEB wanting to talk about how great their cookie cutters are... and personally I love to watch all the cookie cutters race on the track on Sunday... and whats amazing to me is there are different engineers with different schooling and a many levels of experience but all the bikes are running close to the same speed around a track... NOW Granted there are two amazing riders in AMA riding for suzuki... so with this in mind... Suzuki is not wining MotoGP or WSB races every weekend ... but back to the point of street riding...

Mountainrider... GOD BLESS HIS BROKE BACK... is one of the fastest riders in our group... who happens not to race or as far as I know ever roadraced... but yet he is still faster than a lot of guys on GIXRS R1 R6 that I know have raced... at least he is in the mountains... why? because he doesn't give a $h!T... hes fast because he is relaxed on any bike he rides... He understands what makes a bike fast is the person sitting on top of it... not disturbing what the engineers designed it to do... and not the motor under it... we all know a great 250 rider can smoke a great 1000 rider on a tight track (gokart style)... but a track with long straights usually gives someone with the ponys the Checkered... so don't talk about how great your bike is because you can do 170mph... and that exhaust put me to 185hp... and how thats gunna win you a race through the mountains... cuz the guys ive seen in speeds excess of 110mph are usually loosing altitude... without any road under their rubbers... or finding a rare straight...

I'm trying to make a point... its taking a while... the company who can put power to the ground... while staying nimble through the corners is gunna win most races... but the more nimble in the mountains the better chance you have...

Now when Eric and his engineers finally figure out this xbRR business... and they get some experience around the track with it... YALL COOKIE CUTTERS MIGHT UNDERSTAND US BUELLERS!!!

Olin pretty much nailed it, in my opinion. Anecdotal stories about Buells beating Gixxers on the street are useless. Hayden could beat us all on a Kawasaki Vulcan, it would not make the Vulcan a better bike for tight roads.

Take Ortegakid's word for it. He is an Expert level racer and just bought an R6 to park next to his beloved XBR.

I've been on the track lately, coming out of corners faster, I get beside the other rider, and 100 yards later the other guy just pulls away. You can still beat them with the Buell, but do you really want to ride that much harder and take so much more of a chance coming out of the corner so hard? Not me, I've got kids to care for.

Again, this really doesn't matter much for a really fun street ride. Then its all preference, and the Buell is incredibly fun in that setting. I do prefer the rumble of the Sporty engine on the street. It really feels great and does the job well.

Maybe the two people that are talking through their friends that have these bikes will actually nut up, meet up and then we will know for sure.

A pissing contest is just that, a pissing contest untill the two people that are being referred to meet up and do their business. Untill then it is just a hypothetical situation that many people will have different opinions about and of course everyone thinks the other opinion is wrong.

Now that being said I'm sure that everyone in this thread loves their Buell as much as I do, but some people just refuse to believe that there are bikes out there that are faster than Buells.

To those people I say wake up.

Our Buells (and even the XBRR, since it races with 600s) were not designed to compete with the large displacement race replica, nor will they. Our bikes were designed to have usuable street power and great handling, but that does not mean that the current replica bikes don't have great handling and more power.

I do consider it to be fun to take some squid out in to some twisties on my Buell and smoke him, or out on to a flat stretch of road and show him how to ride a wheely, but I wouldn't bother with a rider of equal or better skill than I have. It is great that you are so loyal to BMC, but you are not comparing equal machines and you shouldn't try to say that you are.

Take that how you will, and disagree with me as much as you want, but the proof is in the racing. Even with the XBRR that has a ton more power and torque than our streetbikes have the Buell racers are not in the top three before their bikes crap out on them. I hope one day that the XBRR will be competitive, but at this point it has not proved to be against much smaller competition. I do not understand how you guys can not see this out the sides of your tunnel vision. BMC makes incredibly fun motorcycles that are a blast to ride on the street, but they are not competition to the race replica bikes (especially the larger displacement models) and they were not intended to be. Welcome to a niche market boys.

I understand everything you just said Bro... All of it. I even accept it...

The simple FACTS are that the XB is completely and utterly competitive with pretty much any other bike on a deep canyon road. IMO the deep canyon roads are the best ones and are really the only ones that matter (I know... That's just my style). I don't have kids or a wife, but I have other things to live for. One side of my favorite loop is ALL over 110MPH. The side I really like is 65-105 (mostly marked 15 and 20). That's where the XB lives and breathes. I completely agree that it's not the be all end all of bikes, but it works exceedingly well in it's environment. I just happen to be surrounded by the environment that the XB thrives in. I've driven by 749R's on the outside in the passing lane (only because they wouldn't wave me by so I waited for the passing lane), I've watched other bikes slip out into the oncoming lane because they couldn't hang on the washboard bumps, I've watched guys cutting the double yellow every corner (I generally back way off of those guys), I've watched guys smoke the rear tire on 1000's coming out of every corner trying to stay ahead of my lowly little "underpowered" 12R... Then, when we get to the end of the Spars they invariably ask me... "How much HP does that thing have?" I can only look at them incredulously and light my smoke...

Do you understand what handling is?

Handling is how a bike works AFTER you've lost traction. Before that, it's called grip. After that, you get into handling. The XB handles brilliantly.

That said... I rode dirt bikes since I was about five and I've got at least three times as many miles on motorcycles in general as I do in cars.

That is a great way to put it M1. I do agree with what you've said about the deep canyon being the spot that the XB lives and breathes in for sure! Please don't think that I'm bagging on Buells in my posts because that is not my intention, but it bothers me when people on this board refuse to realize that race replica bikes are extremely compentent bikes intended for racing tigh and straight style courses. I know that Buells do very well in the twisties, but it can not be said that a guy on a Buell racing a guy on an 06 GSXR 750 at the same skill level will walk on the Suz as others seem to believe.

Hey, the guy rides an '06 XB12R Buell everyday. He's ridden & raced many bikes and I'm at least inclined to believe he knows exactly what he's talking about with this 750.
I've ridden it too & feel the exact same way.
