The second day I've owned my absolutely stock xb and I managed to scrap the exhaust coming up the driveway with my GF on the back. No damage except a scrap on the pipe. Just meant I had to go inside and shop for a new exhaust. I ordered a Jardine aluminum on ebay for $230. For the price I thought it was worth shot, although now I'm wondering how I'll ever get the bike in the air. I may switch to the Buell race pipe later. While I was on ebay, I also found someone selling a new race ecm for $125, seemed like to good a deal to pass. So now, of course, I need a new aircleaner. There's seems to be quite a lot of different ideas about what's best for the aircleaner. Any particular thoughts concerning my set-up would be appreciated. I'm also curious, there seems to be different ideas about the TPS reset (I'll call it that, 'cause that's what the manual calls it) Can I change the ECM and ride the bike to the dealer? Will the bike "learn" a new map or will I need to have the bike trailered? Lov'n the bike, it's crazy, I know so much depends on the skill of the rider, but this bike is making me a better rider, what more could I ask for? I mean, besides, oh I dunno, twenty more Hp.

Ride the bike to the dealer, then change the ECM, then have them do the TPS reset and ride it home.

The swap can be easily done in the parking lot in a couple minutes.

Most 9 owners report great improvements by installing the 12 airbox, which is pretty cheap. Most people people yank the snorkel and install K&N, and some drill holes in the airbox too.

Ditto that.

Perry pretty much hit the nail on the head.

Ride bike to dealer early. Bring tools. Swap the ecm in the parking lot then let the dealer reset the TPS. Some people have been able to swap the ecm & ride to the shop & some havn't. It's hit or miss depending on how close the tps is set on the new ecm. It's much better (safer) to swap it in the parking lot.

Swapping the stock 9 inner airbox cover for the newer 9SX/12S/R/SS/Uly inner airbox cover is the best mod you can do. That inverted nipple in the new cover makes a big difference. Think small power gain & much smoother delivery.

On edit: I like K&N when it comes to filters. You can find them on e-bay, or perhaps Al of American Sportbike or DaveS still have some in stock. I have a race kit on order that comes with the new Buell race filter so I'm gonna try it out but I'll have my trusty K&N at the ready should I decide I don't like the Buell one.

Once you have the pipe, filter & ecm installed, desnorkel her. Yank that rubber thing that's inside the opening through the frame on the left side (left hand side while sitting on bike).

Sounds like you're on the right track here.

Congrats on the bike, and welcome to Badweb!
I'd rather sweat than bleed, wouldn't you?
White is definitely the FASTEST color Buell.

After doing the above, (all very good)My 03 XB9S is as described above.(except no extra holes in airbox).
Check the tires, if they are the stock Dunlops that originally came on the bike get rid of them as soon as you can. The very best mod you can make on your bike, replace them with any of the tires you will find recommended elsewhere on this site.

Replace the ecm in the parking lot. All of a 5 minute job.
The winner is the one that has the most fun.
