9000 miles in 13 months on my 03 XB9R. Only minimal problems.

I had plenty of problems before 5K AND since then. The key to Buell ownership is being able to overcome!

Metalstorm, My bile also seems to run a little better now that I have hit the 5k mark. I have had the fan replaced at 500 miles and just recently my fuels level sending unit seems to have gone out so the light stays on almost all the time now. I fear taking it to the dealer for they may jack something else up....so I am still in troubleshooting mode.

Not at 5000 mile. Mine in off the road now at 24,000 km. At 22,000 km the belt broke and the tension wheel bareings were worn. Had to get the dealer to do the work if I wanted it under warranty. Two days ago the back end went all over the place at 150kmh on the highway, a bit scary. turns out the rear wheel bearing exploded on me. I ride hard and service well, myself. I hope it isnt all down hill from here. As soon as I get it back I am fitting a sprung tensioner wheel pully from T.H. in UK. Any one else using one?

Here`s a few items that had to be replaced on my XB12 before 5,000 miles and within 6 months of buying.

Wheel bearings front once, rear twice, Drive belt four times, Battery once, Spark Plugs three times, TPS reset five times, Front Fork seal replaced leaking, numerous fuses and Eletrical problems causing the lights and to shut off while riding and motor to stall, Clutch cable snapped, and several minor oil leaks.

I know that many, many people have had incredible reliability with the XB`s but i know alot of people (including me) that have had tons of problems. I still love the bike but don`t really ride it too much, just local short trips cause i don`t trust it.

After that i purchased a GSXR 1000, put converta bars, corban seat, and lowered the pegs alittle to make it comfortable on 500 mile days. Its now comfortable, fast, gets 50mpg on highway and best of all trouble free.

Not trying to flame anyone just telling my story.

Seems like alot of wheel bearings there, Hmmm what are the signs if ya don`t mind saying that they are getting bad, I`m sure alot wd. like to know on this ..Thanks

Ouch! I'm sorry to hear about all those problems. Were you ever able to figure out what caused all that? Obviously there are several different root causes. One thing that blows me away also like with Hogs is the wheel bearings. Were they installed wrong maybe?

The front WB while i was coming to a stop all i heard was grinding from the front. I figured i let the pads get too low, when i checked the brakes had alot of pad left but there was metal shavings and dust by the hub. The bearings were toast.

The rear same thing alot of grinding noise and clunking from the rear of bike and metal shavings and dust on the rear wheel.

Why the wheel bearings broke in the first place who knows, it looked like the had no grease at all. The second time the dealer probably damaged them installing them.
