I looking to buy a textile jacket that is water proof, I see Fieldsheer jacket pretty cheap. Are they junk or OK? I would only wear it when there is a chance of rain, so it would not be any everyday jacket. I still likey me leather, just ain't so water proof!

I just bought the Joe Rocket Meteor...Haven't been able to try it due to my current location....

Vaxb - I remember there being a thread about jackets in the apparel section. Fieldsheer was named a couple times.

I browsed their website before and it always asks to install language pack...It's in English, so I don't know.

Vaxb,

I bought a Fieldsheer textile jacket at the Atlanta IMS ~4 years ago. I've worn it a lot; it's held up pretty well and has been a decent jacket.

One thing I strongly suggest you check out however- on my jacket at least, the jacket is not rainproof, the insulated liner is rainproof. Their literature specifically states this and I can confirm from having worn it in the rain. I guess this works OK for some climates, but it sucks for when it's hot and rainy.

If it is bang for the buck that you are looking for- look at the tour master transition.
new enough has them at a very good price and I have been very, very pleased with the quality and utility!

I think Cortech products give great Bang-For-The-Buck. I have Fieldsheer pants and they are ok, the CE knee armor is very lame though.

I have a Frogg rainsuit. It looks like paper but holds up real well. I wear it over my cloths and or jacket going to work in case I get splattered by a bug or a puddle. Rolls up in to a very small area. Also breaks the wind when cold. $60+ for both pieces.

My three year old $49 one-piece Fieldsheer rainsuit is one of the best I have ever owned. I have ridden in storms that approached biblical without leaks. It is PVC coated nylon with tape sealed seams, a corduroy collar, and zippers as heavy as on my Dianese leathers. The only rainsuit that I had that was better was a Jumbo, but they are no longer sold in the US.

Fieldsheer tends to alter styling fairly often and there are a couple of dealers in the US that sell quality brand new, but out-of-style gear at ridiculously low prices. IF you can get your size, its not a bad way to go.

I have Fieldsheer M3 summer jacket with enclosed packable rain cover. I have FS Cf puck gloves, FS pants, and a 1 piece FS leather suit. The suit has yet to be tried. Everything else is great. And as stated above you can get some of the older stuff for a steal. I got exactly $210.00 in all of this gear.
The jacket with the rain cover is what I was wearing when I laid it down in the mountains. The only thing to repair was a tear in the rain cover that was in the shape of an 'L' 1/4 inch in each direction. A lot of people like the Joe Rocket stuff, but I am very happy with Fieldsheer products up to this point.

Fieldsheer is very good for the price for the quality in my opinion. CE Armor is usually standard.

I,ve never owned a Joe Rocket jacket. But I have used Belstaff jackets and pants in wet weather for many years and am convinced that the English understand what rain gear should be able to do. The jacket I have is the same price as the Joe rocket and comes with a removable inner liner that is really warm.

Hey Vaxb,I don't know what your budget would allow, but the jacket I got the day I picked up my bike is a Harley FXRG Nylon jacket. It is black with black pin-like stripes that glow white at night when a light hits them.It is waterproof, windproof, has an inner jacket that is removable for hot weather, and has been warm enough to wear at 30 degrees with a fleece shirt undrneath, and it has vents that can be opened for hot weather. It comes with soft armour and has the best pockets inside for glasses, cell phone, and such. The neatest feature it has is a kidney-type belt that is adjustable for back support and it hides inside even if you don't use it.Designed by bikers for bikers is what it is.Expensive though.
