The XBRR was already released, is that all for this year? If not when is Buell going to have this years unveiling?

Hey Dave, Did I understand correctly that the race kit won't be available after May? If so is there something else in the works?

No.
All performance parts manufacture has come to an end, once all parts have been sold, that's all folks. The same goes with Screaming Eagle.

No more race kits?!?!

Pressure from epa?

Speaking of new 2007 models, I would like to see an update to the blast or a new thumper.

Maybe a reworked entry level bike. Master Blaster?

I really want to see a entry level adventure sportbike thumper! XB5X or XB6X? (Like a Kawa KLR or BMW 650GS. The XB12X is giving the 1200GS some stiff competition)

If Erik made a thumper adventure sportbike or supermotard bike I would be the first in line to buy one.

Or am I just crazy!

It's sad to say, but with the epa regulations and the pressure they are putting on Buell and Harley it wont be very long before we start seeing Liquid cooled engines on new models. My prediction is late '07 or the first '08 models will have some type of liquid cooling on them........

Liquid cooled! That is the last thing I would want, a watered down Buell. : (

My Buell gets excellent mileage considering the competition. If you can go farther on less gas then doesn't that mean there are less emissions per mile? Would water cooling help with emissions issues?

No.
It seems like it ought to be that way but it's not. I can't explain it, I'm no epa engineer, but I think it has to do with what gets put into the air.
Would water cooling help with emissions issues?
Maybe, but I don't see how.

"Would water cooling help with emissions issues?"

Yes and no...

For anyone interested please do a search for "water cool" matching parts of words : ). There's a LOT of information and I'd bet it'll surprise you : ).

I have started to read up on the subject and it is a surprise. If Buell already meets CARB2004 standards, and it appears they do- then why would the EPA be leaning on them? Could a catalytic converter be placed into the mix at some point without requiring a total redesign/new engine?

Thanks,
Cheese

I get anxious in august. After they announce the line-up I say "Wow thats awesome, wonder what they will do next year." I guess that proves I'm a Buell nut.

I do the same thing with Apple computers. Another brand with a "Think Differrent/Different in every sense" mentality.

Now if we can get Erik to do a product release keynote presentation and post it on Buell.com. Just Like Steve Jobs.

Maybe somebody can tape the new buell product announcement at the dealer show and post it to badweb.

Just and idea.

For sure, but sadly there's no investment potential there... The direct link solves the problem nicely and doesn't cost much more...

San Diego

It's not so much the emissions that have caused the death of the race mufflers and SE non street legal pipes.
It is the general public tired of our loud bikes.

I say they should get a life but motorcyclist are easy prey for those that think they know what's best for us and everyone else.

And just think, this used to be America?

The biggest factor in this, I believe is when HDs became mainstream status symbols.
20 years ago when only us dirtbags rode loud HD bikes and there weren't that many around people pretty much just shrugged it off.
Now there are HDs on every street of every town. Great for business and HD but the general population is tired of hearing us.

Race ecm will still be available. It is the muffler that is discontinued. the boys with the drag pipes are starting to have an effect on everyone.

It does seem to be more and more common to hear loud bikes. And that is part of the problem. Of course, screaming eagle pipes on a H-D, or the race can on a Buell is hardly loud compared to straight pipes.

Nevermind the rice-burners and thumpin stereos.

"I say they should get a life"

Nothing personal Dave, but I think the general complaint is that they are trying to have a life and enjoy life and loud bikes have become very annoying. Hell, I'm a bike guy and I can't stand listening to loud bikes anymore. I hate hearing them blast around here. Just my 2 cents.

What Dave said, it's not the EPA, it's the local/state governments reacting to public pressure about too many loud bikes.

The mothership's thoughts on the issue HERE

2007 prediction: all HD/Buells will be Fuel Injected.

Yes, a catalytic converter COULD be added to the Buell to further improve its already excellent emissions performance.

In addition, for enough money, you could develop a combination of aftermarket fuel mapping AND a catalytic performance muffler that would offer both better performance and improved emissions. Note carefully the 'for enough money' part; developing such an engine map / catalyst combination would consume alot of time & money.

For the car market, there are aftermarket catalysts available that offer a performance gain. The EPA rules don't have to kill the performance aftermarket, but they will likely make it more expensive.

How would liquid cooling help emissions?

IIRC, Buell's already meet 2008 restrictions without the use of secondary emissions devices.
How many water cooled bikes do you know of that can bost this?

How would liquid cooling help emissions?

Easier to control engine temperature. I.E. no more howling fans...
Not to mention reduces engine mechanical
noise.}
