After reading many of the posts here I think I want to replace my muffler. Can i just purchase a drummer, install it, and bring it to a dealer for a tps reset... is that all there is to it or am I missing something? Should I also replace the air filter? Thanks.

shouldnt need a tps reset for a muffler change. Air filter is up to you.

Race ECM.
or
have your stock ECM mapped.

Also, TPS reset has nothing to do with the exhaust. Only if you install a new ECM.

Ok, so if i just replace the muffler, do I need a new ECM or can I simply bolt on the new muffler and be done with it? Would the dealer do the ECM mapping for me? Will I notice any significant power gains with just a new muffler? Thanks again. Sorry to sound like such a moron... but I am!

Some will say no, but from what we saw at the exhaust shootout....YES.

Depends on if they have the Direct Link system, not all dealers do. You can send your ECM to American Sport Bike and have it mapped and sent back to you.

Yes

Ok, one more question (I think), if I sent out my ECM to have it mapped, what is actually changed? Would I need to tell the person who is doing the mapping what muffler I plan on using with it? TY.

The fuel and spark tables within the ECM. "The Map"

with direct link you first must buy the "key" for your ecm, you can also buy the software w/ it also and do your own tps resets. after you have the "key" you can have Al at american sportbike "push" the new map into your ecm.(which you also must buy) he will return your ecm and you install it, you do not need a tps reset at that point due to the fact it is still the "original" ecm. this is IF they have a map for your particular muffler/air filter combo.(which in most cases they do) i should have my direct link by the time i get home today. i have a combination that has NOT been "mapped" yet and w/ the stock ecm i was running DANGEROUSLY LEAN..not good for motor life. i ended up getting the map for a jardine muffler w/ the asb airbox which is the best map out for MY combination. if you call Al he will get you squared away with what you can and what you should do. really nice guy and super smart. i'm always amazed at all the info he has to share when you call, and this guy knows buells!
