Has anyone had any experience with godfather racing(www.godfatherracing.com)? Their selling a full set of race fairings for $450 and was wondering if they're total pieces of crap.

I have a set on my track GSXR. They fit fine, only a few air bubbles, but for track who cares. They are light, maybe 2-3 layers tops.
I am still waiting to see how they crash test!

The godfather fairings are molded from a sharkskiz fairing.

I highly recommend the Sebimoto bodywork available through
racingmotorcycles.com, or yoyodyne. They are higher quality
pieces. We've had both, in fiberglass, on our race bike. The
fiberglass sebimoto fairings have kevlar reinforcement at the
various mount and stress points. This really makes a
difference, at least to me. Plus the finish is nicer right
out of the box.

I just bought the set last week. I've casually browsed over the pieces and started wet sanding the tank and tail piece. This is what I've discovered so far.

The tank looks like it was done two pieces or something as it has a mold line that runs off center and angled. You can't notice it on the top but when looking at it from the bottom, it's very obvious. Don't really think it has any impact on strength and durability though. Same thing on the tail piece on it runs down the middle. It results in a flat spot on the top, so I will need to rough up the surface and throw some Bondo at it and do a little shaping. Shouldn't be too difficult.

Looking at the fairing, my right side of the upper piece has a real thin area that is actually kind of breaking/cracking. I'll actually have to throw another layer or two of fiberglass on that area.....Not a big deal as I was planning on throwing an extra layer on both sides anyway just as a precaution.

Also, they only sell the race version....so, if you are putting it on a street bike, you'll need to cut holes for the headlights. I'm planning on mounting some aftermarket lights into the fairing.

How hard is it to do the fiberglass work yourself. It's something that I'm interested in trying. What do I need, where do I get it, and how much will it cost?

You mean as far as adding a few layers of glass or customizing it? As for adding layers, it's nothing that difficult. You just need to make sure that you properly prep the area or the extra layers will simply peel off in time. You can get cloth and resin at any auto parts store.

As for customizing, that's a bit more difficult. Lot's of resources on the web regarding glassing, primarily relating to stereo installation. I don't think I'd tackle customizing until if you've done some basic stuff first. The resin cures pretty quick. The biggest challenge is making sure you have a strong bond between the new and old so that it doesn't crack later on.

Ya, I was just talking about adding a few layers. How many do you think would be good enough?

And how do the fairing mount? The guy at godfather said their isn't any mounting hardware needed. Do you have any picks or anything?

Well, on the backside of the tank down the middle I'm going to add one layer. Down the middle of the tail I'm going to add a layer. On the sides of the upper fairing, I'm going to add two layers making sure to get it all the way too the edges near the mounting holes.

As for how it mounts, I asked them the same thing and they gave me the same response, but I was pretty well convinced they were wrong. You can get the hardware either from Hal's or from Racingmotorcycles.com. I haven't ordered the mounting kit yet.

I haven't taken any pic's yet as I've been busy trying to finish the polishing on my spare swing arm. Once that's done, I need to get that mounted, get the new tires mounted on the villain black rims and then I'll start working on the fairing.

When Godfather had their production in Mexico there stuff was crap - very bad - brittle.
From what i've heard, they moved production back to the US and quality is much better again.... we got one of their first sets for a 600RR when they were producing out of Mexico and it was unbelievable trash.., although they did replace it eventually.
I have the Sebimoto on my racebike - good stuff. That would be my choice without another thought. Rich has them in stock at Inovative, and they are reasonable.

Wonder if this is hold over stuff from Mexico?? Actually, it's not horribly bad. The left fairing side is the biggest issue. Yeah, I would rather just bolt it up and not have to do any work on it at all, but hey, I got a good deal.....ok, yeah, $400 for the whole kit...that's the shipped price.

we saw the people in Daytona.

I got my aftermarket light set today. Doesn't look like the lights are going to work for molding them into the fairing. They curve much more than the front of the Buell fairing. I may have to either look further or just go with a frenched round light.

I still highly recommend saving a little more cash and buying the sebimoto fairings.

It will save you lots of headaches.

Especially if you've never fit fairings to a bike that did not come with them before.
