Anyone have any idea what his personal collection is like or what is his favorite for riding on his days off?

It's not like he can afford to have his pic taken riding anything but company iron.

True, but he must still have a favorite among the Buell family.

This question has a "global" answer and a "specific" answer.

First, globally, Erik loves riding anything with two wheels.

He has a Studebaker in the garage and bought a CityX, I mean he was hyped about this bike, for himself.

I once, to keep his name clear of the transaction bought "another brand" for him...read the book to find out. : )

There's no reason he can't ride anything he wants but you'll likely find him on Buells, I mean what a way to combine pleasure and work, eh?

He had an 03 Firebolt (White I believe) and now a CityCross (as I last heard...). Dunno if he still has the Bolt. He spoke highly of riding a "modified Blast" but I don't know if it was his own.

there were a whole fleet of bikes at the factory when we toured it last year. They
were inside the assembly building by the big door on the left. Our tour guide told
us they were Erik's bikes. The bike that held my attention was the RSS. There was
also an srad GSXR, and assorted other bikes. I know Erik owns a City cross that he
bought at Hal's a while back. The most impressive thing about the bikes? They were
all dirty, but it wasn't from sitting still, they were all well ridden bikes.

Having said that, Erik has been quoted as saying on a road he doesn't know the city-
cross is his weapon of choice. On a road he does know, the firebolt is his weapon.

To cool I would love to go to the factory.

Hell yah, there are probaly tons of other bikes ridden by the factory...I bet they beat the s^&t out of em too.Hehehe
You dont fight an opponent where he is strong you fight em where they are weak...That why Buells always have new concepts that have turned into a comoddity for us then them. Its the american way!
Go Buell!

That's an accurate statement. I have fond memories of Gary Stippach and I leaving at the end of a work day. He had a lot longer ride than I but we often got the "you're not going out in this weather" . . .

You'll likely never put your Buell through anything it hasn't seen.

I would think that it would be a good thing for Erik and his entire development team to ride the current bikes that are in close to the same market. That way they know what the competition is doing and what they have to do to keep up, or keep ahead, whichever the case may be. They do not want to get in the same situation as Detroit's auto industry, where they only drove their own cars and were oblivious to what the rest of the World was producing.

I would bet that Buell and company do this, but I dunno. HD and Buell keep secrets much better than even the White House, so how is one to really know what they do? Buell doesn't seem to have any leakers, just deciders. Read Court's book, I guess.

So, when do you plan to publish this book, Court?

Erik BOUGHT his city-X from Hal's Harley Davison.

Says something about his opinion of that model.

I heard rumors that Mr. Buell was riding an Enfield Bullet and was heard to remark "I don't know what it is about this bike, but 30 MPH has never been this exciting or challenging."

I forget where I saw it or read it, so this could be complete B.S. but I thought I saw something that stated his CityX is really worked on the HP side.

Eriks may be built some I don't know for sure but what I do know is it runs a stock exhaust. He says I like to go out and enjoy the ride without all the noise. As said at the 20th anniversary.

I thought Steve Mackay said it went from the show room straight back to Hal's Performance for modification.

The engineering and development team at Buell, just like all manufacturers, keeps and rides regularly a complete fleet of competitive bikes.

Erik BOUGHT his CityX and had "significant" performance work done. He enjoys the heck out of it.

It makes a great deal of sense BUYING a bike. I've had several factory bikes here at the house in New York City and trust me I use (you would too if you read the legalese) a great deal more caution in where I park them and how I ride them.

I'd due for a Ulysses now and would PREFER to purchase it.

Ahhh.....but the CityX still beckons.

: )

Another thing about purchasing a bike is he is getting exactly what we can get.
He probably wanted to make sure that the production bikes were coming out as good as his pre-production models.

Any chance you can expand on "significant" for us?

I read at one point that Erik had a turbo X1, so I wouldn't be surprised at wild mods done to an XB, I'm just curious what "the man" himself has done.

>>>Any chance you can expand on "significant" for us?

Yes. By "significant" I meant spectacular. This gets better when to toss in some finely honed riding skills.

One of my favorite moments in Buell testing is when xxxxxxxxxxxx and I were headed down a road from the factory one night and met Erik coming the other way on a 1998 White Gold S3-T. If you are at Homecoming AND have a pink hat on remind me to tell you HOW we met him.

I got my lesson one day when he and I were late for an appearance at Uke's. I was on my 1995 S-2 and he was on "Big Red".

He does things with bikes that "normal" folks either won't or can't. It's fun.

Erik has had a couple turbo Buells. He and I, at the request of HD Media, officiated a wedding years ago. Erik and I rode to the ceremony, on the front steps of HDHQ, he on a turbo S1 and I on a plain jane...marriage appears to have endured so that bodes well.

The "ELVES" are always fiddling with something.
