Mine just stopped @ 1800miles. 3-4 tanks of gas now and no oil used. Yeah (knock knock).

8600 miles... mine uses 2 OUNCES EVERY FIFTY MILES....its within buell/harley specs so it "normal"

Wow, just got 1100 miles on the '06 CityX as of today. It hasn't lost a drop!

2600..... mine uses Almost 2 OUNCES Every FIFTY Miles, as well.

For you guys that are using oil, I was told that the xb's do not use oil if you keep the "hot" oil level at the low end of the stick. If you keep the level midway or higher then the bike will consume it. I believe this oil is not going by the rings it is going through the breather tubes and into the engine through the airbox. I like to keep my oil level high but I am going to try this theory and closely watch the oil level when hot at about the second X mark from the bottom. It is clear that the air box is getting some oil. I go into the airbox as routine maintenance

Sounds like a catch can might help keep track of the amount of oil lost through the vents.

Over-filling will give the false impression that it is being used. Check your level just after the bike has been run/ridden for at least 10-15 minutes and mind the marks on the dipstick. Don't over-fill.

it just appears the engine dose not use as much oil if the level is kept lower, that is because the top of the swing arm is smaller so the oil level appears to drop faster.

a couple of you guys say you are burning "2 ounces per each 50 miles" that would equate to a full quart per 800 miles. my question is are you actually adding oil in very frequent 2 ounce increments, or have you ridden a bit longer distances (more than fifty miles) and allowed the oil to "seek it's level"
the implication that i am trying to make is that the oil consumption could possibly be reduced with less frequent oil filling.

I was using oil though the breather on my Electroglide on road trips. The new stock big twins run so hot, 232 degrees oil temp in the pan on the open road on a 90 degree day, that the conventional oil was starting to vaporize and get blown out of the breather. When I changed to synthetic oil, the temps dropped almost 10 degrees and no more oil consumption due to the high stability of the oil well above my previous running temperatures.

Yep bought one thought the same thing...Drummer too nice stuff...
DEFINETLY dont have 2 ounces in there after fifty miles more like mostly clear water.
You can think of a method..Short rides...Long rides...Hell i did a 800 miler 2 weekends ago it DOESNT MATTER tried everything catch cans, synthetics...tightend side stand bolts blah blah blah...Its what it uses.

Its within specs so it "good to go".

This is the only gripe I have had with thte bike. She is a short trip bike..150 miles or less any further i have to bring oil with me.

Besides that is acceptable to Buell/Harley. They told me twice already.

I havent met a Harley rider yet with the same problem though..they all say its not right. Several of them have 150K plus on sosme of theyre bikes...I think they would know

Other than this i have had NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER. Runs like a race horse.

I love my bike its BAD ASS! looks, rides and sounds it too.

I check my oil about every 3 or 4 gas fillups and when I do, it needs a little. No big deal, I ride it hard in some warm weather. When it wants a drink I feed it.

Dunno how many ounces in a quart etc but I do know mine uses about 1/2 a quart of oil in 3000 miles (I think thats the same as 5000km which is when I change the oil). I don't bother toping it up cause the usage has been very constant since new. Air Cooled enignies due to the tolerances being looser do consume oil as part of normal operation, but a quart in less than 1000miles could not be "normal". I'd suggest a compression check or cylinder leakdown to check the ring gap position.

There is a great over view of this issue in the knowledge vault of the website. In a nut shell, At your next oil change put the exact amount of oil in the motorcycle as required by the manual and then ride the bike 10-15 minutes then check the oil and remember this is your correct oil level. When I did this, the level was much lower than I was comfortable with but it might explain my minor oil usage. Too much oil and the oil will leave the system.

My bike eats hardly any oil until the weather gets really hot, but even then it isn't a lot... but you do have to watch it in the summertime.
