Well everyone as ive been taken by the darkside. I picked up my new toy today, an 06 FZ1 in shift red. All I have to say is wow this thing is FAST but fun as anything so far. Its also much better with my gf on the back which was a big deciding factor. As for other comparisons the off idle torque def isnt there but once above like 3 k (which happens QUICK) I dont think there is much of a contest. As for handling its hard to say so far, im still getting used to the bike and scrubbing in the tires. Ill report back with more after i get some more miles on it.

Yeah, I'm also thinking about getting a FZ6 just because my gf could ride behind me easier than on my XBS. =P But would probably only be an added toy, not a replacement.

An here's me contemplating a Brutale, which if I do purchase and I get rid of the Buell, it's like cutting my own head off, but an FZ1?

FZ1 is a fantastic bike. Good choice they dont handle like a buell but they do other things better. Fuel consumption is one, 2 up comfort is also better, and the motors are rock solid.

but thats just my opinion, and i will probably get called a troll for having one.

I am of the mind, any bike is a good bike. Congrats on the purchase. I guess I am lucky to have 2 bikes. The wife is not a big fan of sport bikes no matter how comfortable they may be (My VFR was very comfortable for 2 up riding). But she loves riding on the back of the cruiser (well the Corbin dual Tour and back rests help a lot). Best of luck with it.

my friend bought an FZ6 at the same time i got my XB9R. it's a nice bike. after a long ride he is less sore than i am. better fuel consumption? i don't think so. i get better gas mileage than he does. but i have to fill up more often. his tank is like 5.5 gallons.

he really likes it. he is thinking of getting something a little sportier but he likes the seat on it, or more importantly his girlfriend likes the seat.

I read the other day that MV are in a dire financial situation (again). Proton sold their interests for a nominal $1 on the condition Castiglioni (?) inherits all the bad debt. Although MV's output was something like 14,000 bikes last year they need to make like 5 times that but need $50 million to restructure efficiently.

Yea gonna miss the buell when I sell it, but it just isnt fitting my needs in a bike for the time being. Later on in life when i can afford 2 bikes ill def have another one, the bike has been great to me and is loads of fun to ride.

I'm also thinking of going back to the Japanese side when used bikes get cheaper in the fall. I'm mostly riding at the track and I have to ride the XB too aggressively to keep up. Also, the handling is very twitchy when riding very aggressively at the track, which worries me at times. I'm no motoGP rider, and can use a bit of inherent stability in the chasis design.

If I move to an area with better street riding, which may be the case, the XB would stay in the garage forever. It is still the most fun street bike I can imagine.

Dowhat?!?

What sort of MPG have you seen from an FZ-1? The numbers I've read for nearly any of the I4 liter bikes are usually in the upper 30s, some netting over 40 on the highway. Sportrider's numbers list the max fuel economy reported from their FZ-1 as 39mpg. An XB12 will get upper 40s if you beat on it, and well over 50 on the highway. Are you really seeing better than 50mpg from an FZ-1?

About 6:30 last night I got the urge to ride. It's one of my basic needs in life. My wife is used to this. I just puttered around, taking a favorite short twisty lane, pulling a surprisingly short U-turn in the Scottish Rite parking lot to go back down that road, enjoying the exhaust sounds reflected off cars and the rustle of the valve train, smelling the cool air around a lake and a reservoir. On the on-ramp, I pulled my knee in, remembering I didn't have anything to protect it. It occurred to me that the SUV that angrily blew by me on my right thought I was going too slow, so I obligingly rolled on in 5th and blew by him at 100 in the blink of an eye, then hauled it down just in time to pass a trooper running radar in the median. A fast off-ramp, a welcome Amoco with the old one-hose-per-grade pumps, 40MPG noted, an even shorter U-turn, and on home. I started wondering--this is the perfect bike for me; can this bike really be as good as it seems? Am I imagining things? I mean, I don't have the faintest thought of other bikes. I just want to ride this thing into the ground. What are all these people who are throwing their Buells over for other bikes seeing that I'm too blind to appreciate? I totally forgot about that article. I like the description they give for the S too.

But, on topic to this post, the FZ1 is a fantastic bike and if the choice was made to accomodate a passenger, then that is something the Buell will have a hard time competing with.
I simply made a choice with my Buell. It's mine, all mine, Im selfish, did I say it's mine and therefore I took away the ability to have a passenger

Kurosawa: My night sounds just like yours. I had to drop some DVD's off at my friends house about a mile up the road. I figured i was going to have to take my car as it was raining at the office when I left for home. I live about 45 miles away from the office, and when I get home it was sunny out, no hint of rain. So I suit up and take the long way (50 miles) to my friends house. Just a nice leisurely ride through mountains, lots of nice twisties. I sometime find that I have a hard time telling how fast I am actually going. Take a look down after a set, and see I am right around 80. I was having the same feeling. how much I love this bike and how well it fits what I want in a bike. On a side note, what is it with that article and the Heading under the bolt that says it goes 181mph?

I'm with Elff. I took off my passenger pegs.

Different strokes for different folks. I would hate a world with only Buells. My XB suits me the best for my needs. Those are my needs and they are for no one else to decide. Some of my buddies have the all so common I4's but they meet their Starbucks racer needs. I don't flame them. They feel good about their rides. Happy bike enthusiasts makes the world a better place. Egomaniacal rantings that there is only one 'best'don't go far with me.

Spatten1, who are you trying to keep up with at the track? Believe me you have to ride
an SV just as aggressively to maintain the same pace in the LW classes. If you want to move
into a different class it's a different story though.

The FZ1 is a good solid bike. As I've said before, we are fortunate to live in a time
when you have to work to pick a truly bad bike.

Spike, my buell def gets better millage, ive only been through 1 tank on the FZ1 so its hard to say as im not even through the break in. Dont get me wrong I absolutely love my Buell and when i bought it i had the same mentality, It was mine and mine alone, and i took the passenger pegs off. Since then i have just started riding more and more with a passenger and have found it not to fit (part could be that im 6' and 265 and my gf is 5'9 and prob 150) Other than that i just love the way the 06 FZ1 looks, ill have to get some good pics and post them.

stainless, it is too bad you didnt try a ulysses. Has to be the most comfortable 2 up bike made right now.

I'm just doing track days, so class is irrelevant to me. I'm only doing the really short circuits near me, so I can take 600's and literbikes, but I'm really having to hammer it hard coming out of the corners, inside of the other bikes. I really don't want to have to ride so aggressively as I'm a family guy and have a lot people counting on me. Eventually I'm going to take myself and someone else out trying to overcome the huge power deficit. Not to mention, a bit more chassis stability helps smooth me out, I like the bike to help absorb my occasional mistakes, and , to me, the Buell is very precise and unforgiving when ridden really hard.

I just feel that I can pass and ride at a good clip without taking as many chances on a Japanese sportbike. That is just my opinion, for my riding style.

I still say that the XB is my first choice for the street. I love the engine, chassis, sound, everything.

Scotty, after having my first track day on the new bike,(r6v),am so agreeing with you,sadly the bolt will not probably see any more. Saying that, I'm still keeping it, as it is so much fun for the street, allthough it is work sometimes.Funny how it feels after the yam, actually feels racier if thats possible,just not anywhere near as fast,if that sounds right.

That article is highly suspect!
It lists top speed for the Buell as 181 MPH and 159 BHP???
I don't know where they're getting THOSE figures from? My bike, an XB 12 S, is bouncing off the rev limiter before 140 MPH and even Harley lists the BHP at 109.
I wonder how many hundreds of thousands of dollars Harley spends in advertising with that magazine?
That's the trouble with lies. Once they lie about one thing, it's pretty much a given they're BS'ing about EVERYTHING!

The GSXR750 is also a fantastic track bike, sure the buell can be considered a good cornering bike when setup correctly but as we all know it lacks in the speed stakes. Unfortunately while corners are the best part of any race track the fact remains that every race track has at least one straight and this is where the buell simply does not cut the mustard. whatever some folk may think of them the 600/750cc I4 RR bikes are a more rounded package for track duty's, they handle equally as well as the buells but have so much more to offer on the straights.

Keep the buell for the road and the RR for the track and you will be happy.

MV Agusta Motor Spa majority share holding deal signed and share capital increased by 15 million euros


The Genoa based investment holding company GEVI SpA, has taken over the majority holding of MV Agusta Motor SpA, previously held by the Malaysian Proton Group.
The agreement was signed on 1 March 2006 in Varese and, among other things, means new financing worth ?15 million by means of an increase in share capital to more than ?72 million; as a result of this increase, GEVI now holds 65% of the entire share capital.

Following this transaction that was completed with the support and cooperation of the banks, the MV Agusta Group will now have further opportunities to develop its growth that recorded an increase of about 20% in 2005.

My old Cagiva Mito 125 had 7 gears. Seriously that puppy would give an I4 or buell a run for their money in the twisties.
