Us newbies understand that you've seen and heard everything there is in reference to Buells, but we haven't.

Searching for something doesn't always work, for instance, i went to search for a few different things, like custom made subframes, aftermarket tailight setups, etc. and after searching through page after page and getting nothing but those searched words in insignificant sentences, i realized it was a waste of time.

It takes much longer to search for something and find the answer I'm looking for, than to ask here and wait for someone kind enough to answer.

So on behalf of all newbies here, we would like to ask that you, veterans shush and stop bitching about us newbies already.
See something you don't wanna bother reading, skip right over it, Skippy.

Certainly don't open a meaningless thread yourself asking for people to stop "meaningless threads"...see where i'm going with this?

Here HERE.. I am one of the newbies.. However it may upset some of you.. You have to feel pretty good that you were able to help out a fellow Bueller.. However I myself get tired of seeing "Got my new Drummer" but hey I read them because that tells me that Kevin has a great product.. My .02

Just ignore the whiners. The ones not too busy with their SEAL training or working on their PhD will post ideas and opinions. Maybe even a helpful link.

There's a radical idea! Being helpful to newbies! Say, if that catches on, this forum might help sell a few Buells.

We'll see,
Bill

I am a member over at another forum for the Ninja 250. New guys need to check the FAQ's and use search before asking noob questions. Over there if they don't have enough "time" as you say to search then we don't have enough time to reply. It is common web etiquette to use the search button and check the FAQ at any web forum.

Ask away, do not be offended if you are directed to the knowledge vault on really
common threads like "what's the best oil?".Any question asked in earnest we will at
least attempt to answer. Most of us are more than happy to help new members of the
"Buell family" it's one of the best things about owning a Buell.

What kind of oil should I use?

What octane fuel do you use?

How do I get rid of the cheese grater?

So, I installed a muffler, why did my bike lose power?

Did I cover most of the questions?

I have absolutely no problem answering questions new or old as long as I know enough about the subject to do a decent job answering.

There's an old saying.
There's no such thing as stupid questions, only stupid answers.

The search engine works amazingly well, providing you feed in the correct information.

Being a newbie is fine, but you probably don't realize the BadWeB is on its way to something like 2,000,000 posts in a few short years.

There's a hell of a lot of words in those archives!!!

As for posting questions, I think I'm correct in saying, it is posting them in the correct place that Blake is fond of. That said, the Quick Board is better than anywhere if you can't find the correct board.

To the newbies:

1 - This is a generally polite and well mannered group. Don't read anything as harsh or flaming unless that is stated very, very, clearly. And we all agree that it is okay if we disagree, but we do that politely.

2 - Keeping things organized helps us all in the long run. I.e., posting questions about specific parts of a bike in the Knowledge Vault topic they relate to gets the question and answer in a place that makes them easier to find and use again later.

3 - Don't argue with Blake. It is his board. He has given us a wonderful resource, he talks to us intelligently about things we don't like or misunderstand, we view him as a person we want to keep happy and he deserves that.

4 - If you manage to make Blake mad enough that he quits maintaining or shuts down the board, a large number of "the veterans" will visit you and pee in all your gas tanks and paste HoKaSuYa decals all over your motorcycles, cars, and trucks.

5 - The secret to dealing with the apparent confusion and lack of organization here is to use the Search page and read all posts that are new since the your last visit every time you visit. Once you master that habit, you'll never miss anything and your enjoyment of your visits will increase tenfold.

Jack

P.S. - Welcome to the BadWeb!!

"3 - Don't argue with Blake. "

You are only speaking for yourself, Jack. Discussions that turned into arguments with Blake have been one of my great pleasures here.

Never attempt to speak for the "ALL" of any group, and never attempt to put all the longer-time participants in the same bucket. Not all of us are whiney nor gruff nor agitated at newbie questions. Me, for example, ignores a lot of posts. ;)

For the newbies here, a little history to at least partially explain the somewhat disjointed appearance of the board. Back when all there were were older tubers (aka: tube frame Buells) the site here was much easier to follow since there was basically pre-1995 Buells and post-1996 Buells. Then Buell messed it up and added fuel injection so discussions got a little messed up when someone said their carb farted in the f.i. section and someone else thought they were talking about their throttle body.

Anyway, Buell then messed us up again when they introduced the Blast. Alrighty then, we now had singles and twins, a minor division in the ranks, but we maintained and carried forth.

Buell then messed us up again with the introduction of the X-frame bikes, and along with them came a whole slew of new people to the site here. The X-Board was born, more confusion, more division, more melding, more swapping, more stuff. but we carried forth regardless.

Today we have many sub sections on the site, and functionally many levels of the original design of what was supposed to be the Knowledge Vault. Various attempts have been made to organize it, some good, some not so good, some confusing, some clarifying, but life goes on. Imagine trying to drive a school bus full of 100 kids through a drive-thru McDonalds/TacoBell combination, some kids have alergies, some don't, some like beans, some don't, some like fries, some parents say no to their kids having fries, some love fish, some hate fish, some just want a salad, some want extra cheese on their double cheeseburger, some want extra mustard, some just want a plain burger with just bread and meat and nothing else, some want a bean burrito, some want extra sour cream in their 7-layer burrito, some crack jokes about gassy burrito eaters, some burger eaters pass gas and blame it on others, some spill their sodas, some spill their milk, some are alergic to milk and freak out when some gets spilled on them. That's sort of like driving this here BadweB schoolbus. But we'll persevere and carry on and go forth. Not all will prosper, not all will be happy or satisfied, but hopefully some will enjoy the ride regardless of the bumps and hassles along the way.

A bike is a bike, enjoy the ride, share when you can, learn when you can, and just enjoy the ride.

(excuse me now, I have to leave the bus and go to the bathroom, got deer guts on my pants leg on the freeway on the way riding in to work this morning that was kicked up by the car in front of me and I have to go wash it off somemore because it appears some is still on there now that the pants have dried from the earlier paper-towl scrubbing the pants leg got earlier, I'll probably take a pee while I'm down there too so don't expect me back here anytime soon, plus I'll probably be thinking of something else by then and will forget all about this meandering tangental subthread.)

This is my first adventure with Buells, coming from many many years of jap bike ownership, from three different built hayabusas to every gsxr to every jap power cruiser Vmaxes, Valkyries, you name it

I change bikes like some change socks...just sold my Vrod and bought not one, but 2 xb's so, cut some of us some slack, we're here cause we like the bike

Robino,
look at the pics just posted of a very stripped down XB http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show.cgi?tpc=32777&post=646804#POS T646804
that is one direction you could go in.

The other direction is towards full bodywork.

Yet another direction is full-on touring setup as was seen at a Homecoming last year or so complete with highway bars and non-Buell removable hard luggage.

Start your own sub-thread and post the progress complete with pictures. It's alway nice to see what someone does, especially if they share their process in getting there.

Welcome aboard, make the trip what you will, I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Unlike MikeJ, some of us vets are whiney and gruff with everydamnbody!

;-}

seriously, if you have a question, it's answer is likely in here, somewheres --

I've found that stating I tried searching, but couldn't find the answer seems to help in deflecting the "bomber you're an ignorant slut" comments (but not all)

bout the only guys whose questions wind up being ignored totally are those that post something like "I'm sitting on the side of the road again, having just completed a total rebuild of the thingie whose name I don't know with a swiss army knife and a turkey baster, and now my bike is not running right -- I'm too broke to by a service manual or tools, and too dumb to listen to good advice, somebody tell me what to do, and NOW, dammit"

expect those posts to either be ignored, or to draw reponses designed to leave the poor son of a gun in even worse shape ;-}

noobs and vets both welcome here, by most everyone

lastly, it'll take about a week before you can draw your own conclusions about whose advice is most valuable -- some folks you'll take as gospel givers, others you'll read with a grain of salt, others you'll wish to put on an ice flow and push out to sea . . . .

If you are looking for ideas for xb Buells I have a place you can start....

That should keep you entertained for a little while. It is not a complete index, but
