"My old Cagiva Mito 125 had 7 gears. Seriously that puppy would give an I4 or buell a run for their money in the twisties."

I've got an '84 RZ-350 that I tricked out to 60 RWHP, that I'm confident will smoke my Buell in the corners AND the straights.

Stretchman,
Only problem with a 6 speed tranny is that each of the gears has to be 20% narrower to
fit in the same space. Doesn't sound like much, but it makes the engineers heads hurt
to keep it just as reliable.

Erik also said something about problems with EPA noise restrictions associated with
the 6 speed. Anyone know more about that?

Don't forget you need the HP to pull that overdrive top gear too.

Love what you ride, ride what you love. Riding is a passion. Don't worry too much
about the small stuff. What percentage of the time do you really ride over 120mph?

Don't waste your life worrying. You can't ride a spec sheet. Ride for love of riding.

I don't know why you'd need another gear for the XB. The power is linear enough to short shift most of the time.
If it had the HP to attain higher speeds then I might have a different opinion.

The bike can hit the limiter in 5th, so it obviously has the balls to pull a few more mph out of a 6th gear. If you can redline a gear in real life, the bike has enough power to warrant another gear. I cannot redline my bike ('83 Honda 550 Nighthawk) in 5th, so having a sixth gear is useless. However, I do have a 6th gear to lower highway speed revs.

I've never hit the rev limiter in 5th, even at the FUSA Pocono circuit, but I have a 9, not a 12. I also never try for max speed on the street, just not my gig.

I was stretching my throttle cable to get to 125 mph or so on the back straight. I guess I would have hit the rev limiter eventually, but not in any practical amount of time or distance.

Scott,

There's alot of ways to make the XB faster in a straight line, if you want to. I'd be glad to help! That said, you can probably pick up a 2-3 year old track-prepped 600 for what it costs to build a 105hp XB.

Jefferson on the 20th?

Spatten, what's up? What are you thinking about getting?

You're spot on in your assertion about Derek's riding ability. He and I have been doing some track days together. He just makes me look stupid out there. But not for long. I have his bike in my garage right now and have HP leaches all over it. I think I'll have the upper hand by the time he gets it back.

It sucks being on the same bike watching him running circles around me! It's a good thing he's so damned nice, or I'd have to hate him.

I took the r6 out to the country for the first time last weekend. Man does that thing suck after about the second hour. I couldn't dream of replacing it for track purposes. But I may just keep the bolt for the sheer lack of high-frequency vibration during those relaxing rides.

Are 1000cc's like this too?

Oh David, you do not know how hard I had to work to pass you during one of those sessions, you are no slouch. And I may not show you anything any more so's I can stay ahead! But thanks for the nice words, and I will remove it from your garage soon!
Scotty, get anything recent, put good tyres on, take to track, enjoy!!!

Dago:

You should be happy that Derek is on the R6 now, you can just blame your bike when he passes you.
BTW, The bigger bikes are much less buzzy.

Derek:

I agree. I'll probably ride at the track on the XB until used bikes get cheap in the fall, then pick up a really ugly track bike that has the performance I want for the track. Hey man, is that offer for the knee pucks still good?

I had a really good time on the XB yesterday at Summit Point. I just made sure to try to stay at 80% and really enjoyed myself. I kept the ego in check...

Met Jose Q. from the board, he was there checking out the CCS races at the main track. Really nice guy.

I hope I end up moving somewhere that I can enjoy the XB on the street. It really is the most fun streetbike I've ever had.

I got suckered into buying pics yesterday.

"That article is highly suspect!
It lists top speed for the Buell as 181 MPH and 159 BHP???
I don't know where they're getting THOSE figures from? My bike, an XB 12 S, is bouncing off the rev limiter before 140 MPH and even Harley lists the BHP at 109.
I wonder how many hundreds of thousands of dollars Harley spends in advertising with that magazine?
That's the trouble with lies. Once they lie about one thing, it's pretty much a given they're BS'ing about EVERYTHING!"

Obvious misprint! Did U happen to read "999cc in-line four" directly preceding your "lies"?
