I have had my city X for about two weeks now.. I've really got on tonight going to store and when I hit second gear got me a old man wheelie 2 or 3 inches.... Damn this bike has nuts..  I've had other bikes but this is my first quote sport bike... | ||

yeah....the first time I had that happen to me I was in the middle of crossing a big intersection while making a left hand turn. Coming from experience, it's not a good idea to pick the front tire up while in a turn  | ||

Wait until it breaks loose in a turn. I thought the wheelie scurred me.  It has happened a couple times to me and I am starting to learn how ot deal with it. Slipping in a turn can cause a high side, so I am not purposely doing this. It just happens and I am semi ready for it. | ||

Seriously? Are you guys clutching these things to lift the front? Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love my CityX, but this whole "dial-a-wheelie" thing that I heard about prior to buying one just hasn't happened. The only way that I can get mine to lift is to clutch it in first. Let me know if there's some other way. | ||

Rider weight may be a big issue here also, when I first got my 12 S second gear would come up all the time but now I think I Granny shift more after scarring the heck out of my self more then once | ||

Silverado140 - we're talking bout shifting to second gear lifting. high rpm very fast shifting (barely using clutch). yanks the front wheel right up a few inches. or you can shift about 4500-5000rpm, shift very fast without letting off of the throttle to were you get a rise in rpm when the clutch reengages in second gear. that will scare the crapp right out of you if your not prepared for it.  shea - it's slipped in a corner on me, bout had to change my jeans. tires don't like to grip to dirty asphalt. | ||

I can pop 2-5" real easy doing the quick shift to 2nd but I havent been able to do a real wheelie yet. This is the summer where I get the balls to go for it tho | ||

My City-X with race kit will come right up. Rolling first gear.. maybe 15 to 20 mph, smack it to wide open and it will pull the front up. If you take it close to redline and grab second it will come up again. Took me by surprise the first time it happened! | ||

I have actually got mine to grab some air going into 3rd but its at red line shifting fast, I also only tip the scales at 155. My 9S does great wheelies I'm still getting used to the torquey twin on one wheel, one has to be a little more careful with the throttle on a twin than a inline. But I have managed to get through 1 and 2 in the air. I cant seem to shift this bike as well in the air as my old gsxr. Anyone know what wires you have to tap into to install a shift light? | ||

I can get great air in first with me XB12R. just go and get rpms about six let off for a second then twist it all over and it comes up quick. but a friend with a lightning 12 said that in second he can with clutching it.....he can ride a peg wheelie no joke in second. just clutch it when it reaches 3000 and without letting the throttle off pull in a release as fast as you can and it comes up!!!! No Joke!!! | ||

or if you have 115rwhp you can just use the throotle and power wheelie in 2nd. No need to abuse the tranny when you have power on tap. | ||

I can just snap it goin into 2nd on my 03 xb9s and it comes up like a charm... not hard on tranny or clutch... or i can roll on it in 1st get it up and click 2nd 3rd 4th... havnt got in 5th yet. cruise at 50 in 2nd and feather the clutch and i cant stand it verticall that way too... one of the nicest weelie bikes by far. | ||

These bikes will wheelie without clutch. My 9r will stand straight up if I run it to 4900-5000RPM, close the throttle and then throw it back open (this compresses the front forks enough to have them help you push up when decompress). Cover the back break and hold on! Don't start out by throwing it wide open as it can come up very quick. Sliding far back on the seat and pulling hard on the bars will get the front off the ground in second (using the above method with a few more RPM), but not very high. Second, required a clutch for me. I rarely ride wheelies any longer. I know too many people that have flipped. BTW, my forks are being rebuilt as we speak. I would guess that previous "abuse" from wheelies might be the culprit.  |
