Was riding to downtown today splitting lanes, and I came up behind a guy on who was on a Duc (not Duck!). Anyway, once he saw me he started swerving left and right in a continuous motion. I didnt knwo what that was all aboutand once I had some room to use the other lane, I just waved as I passed him up.

Warming up his tires in hopes that you'd want to race would be my guess.
Or he's just a dick and didnt want you in front of him.

I've only done the swerving thing a couple of times in the past. It was never to warm my tires. It was only because I was bored in slow traffic & had nothing better to do. : )

I've sometimes done that out of boredom, but never when someone came up behind me.

Besides, I live in Florida. Gotta get rid of my chicken strips somehow.

And the funny thing is
From what I have been told by people who know more than me
Swerving like that does not warm your tires up more or faster

I've heard that too.
That speed n semi hard braking actually works better.
Kinda hard to do that on a track tho with no brake light.
Probably why the pros do it too.

I've been told the same thing by MSF instructors, they say the only benefit is that you can knock the dust/debris off the tires.

That is the reason formula 1 drivers swerve.

I did the swerving thing the other night, in front of a big bad man on a chopper. I didn't realize he was behind me, but thought he was in another lane. My boyfriend told me the poor guy didn't know what the hell to do back there. He probably thought I was being an ultra-bitch..lol..

usually a derogatory comment aimed toward the sport bike posers
that own bikes that far, far, exceed their abilities to ride.
Also generally seen wearing wife beaters, shorts and flip-flops
while splitting lanes at 110mph. also some times seen riding with a full
face helmet perched on top of their head.

They turn slowly then squirt quickly in a straight line from
place to place like a......wait for it...

squid

Tires warm up by "bending" around the edge of the contact patch. When turning there is less bending. When you stay upright, the tire tends to bend more and when braking you are transferring more weight to the front (most of the time) which increases the amount of bending.

I do this to knock off dirt as well as wick off some water if I go through a wet spot on the road...but that is about it...I am paying attention to the road rather than trying to look cool.
