My question is why doesn't anyone manufacture a right side scoop for about $50? What are the factory ones made out of, plastic? I'll take one of those.

i'd spring for $50-60-70 bucks for one too.
$200++ seems a "tad" high for a small piece of plastic.

why bother with dyno charts there are people that think their bike has enough hp as it is.
That's far better than any dyno chart.

personal opinions are notoriously inaccurate.
Whether it's estimations of hp or remembering an event as it actually happened.
objective results are a better yardstick for considering a performance upgrade.
If all you're after is aesthetics, great.

I've seen guys swear a pipe made a huge HP increase on a bike only to see it fall
short of stock on the dyno. I guess that's limited thinking too.

Really Bruce, the brake cable requires a little lube now and then, not a big deal,
unless you don't do it. The RR is still early in it's developement cycle. The reason
they keep HP where they do? reliability. Ask any shop that builds the motors, that's
about the point where longevity starts to suffer on a single crank-pin v-twin. At
least on a production line assembled motor. Side loading of the pistons becomes too
much on the strokers, and piston speed for the mass gets too high for the over-square
versions. Cams and fueling are as hot as EPA restrictions will allow. Compression is
already high enough to cause pinging on warm days as it is. Where will the HP come
from on a bike expected to go 100,000 miles?

Remember TANSTAAFL? I'm just looking for evidence that something offers better
performance. That can easily be measured, no reason to get defensive. I'm not denying
Your experience, just looking for objective proof. It's not a personal thing, it's just
the way I, and a lot of others look at things.

BTW I'm sorry if my earlier post was a too..cranky?...and could have been interpreted
as a personal attack.

The right side scoops will not fit with the force pipe.

The left side scoops are roughly the same size and shape as your factory left scoop.
You could paint it to match the left, but you'd lose some bling, or buy a c-f left one.

No one has invested in making a plastic mold for one yet. If they did there would
probably be a run on them. Especially if they had stock type fit and finish.

I had a right side scoop on my bike and the fan seemed to come on as regular as always.

Was quite dissapointed after spending all the money and reading on here before that it helped minimise fan operation and keep the bike cooler.

After thinking about it i figure the fan is their too keep the engine cool, If the fan fails at its job the ecm will drop the overheating cylinder and go into protect mode. Has anyone ever had that problem?

I can't see a problem with the fan running all the time if needed as thats what it is their to do. As long as the engine does not overheat and drop a cylinder then what is the problem?

After spending $$$ on the scoop i really think ive been had. the XB has been around long enough now without a right side scoop i think if it was really needed buell would have fit one up a few years back.

Well, I noticed a difference IMMEDIATELY and the problem with the fan running all the time is it's louder than the damn pro series exhaust!!!!

i just bought one cuz it looks cool, if the fans runs less, cool, if not, dont matter, ran a year without it. i cant honestly see a gain with just a scoop on it. i dont think that the bike " needs it ", but i dont think it will hurt it either.

My Uly's fan runs most of the time even in cool/cold weather at highway speeds. It shuts off once in a while in town or at idle. I think the right side cover is to maintain a constant temp on the cylinders/heads to meet EPA requirements. A clean engine likes uniform and hot temps. A cool engine is a dirty engine. Just a theory though.

Davo, there could be something to that, when it's time to smog your car in CA it's best
to make sure it's good and warm before you arrive at the test station. This has been proven.

I do not know what the test protocol is for bike emissions so I do not know how applicable
it is to this situation. it could be to help the heads stay warm in cold climates.
I do not know.

Wish we could get some anonymous input on this.

Or maybe ask Court if he knows why. (or ask Him to ask someone that really knows)

It would only take about an afternoon to get results if someone that has one would test temps.

all that would be needed would be a warm day, the bike, paper to record readings,
the right scoop, factory scoop, tools to swap them, and one of these:

The price of the non-contact thermometers is no longer prohibitive. Also handy for checking tire
temps and oil temps.

I got the Uly pretty hot in traffic today and It was all the fan could do to keep up. After the road opened up it took about 5 minutes to pull the heat out of the motor to the point where all pinging was eliminated. It appears that there is an attempt to keep some heat in that engine/jugs/heads. It would be easy to remove more heat. I noticed that the fan/air cooled system is tuned to make the bike run rather warm yet there is no thermostat on the oil color. That must be the trade off to keep the rest of the power plant happy and alive. Lots of power, heat and fuel economy means it is running on air!
