My last V-twin was a 03 Kawasaki Mean Streak and it was FI and it had a choke on it, so why doesn't our XB's have a choke. Anyone out there have a answer.

there is a cold idle circuit in the programming.
I believe it is controlled by the rear head temp sensor?

Most modern efi's don't require the cold idle lever any more.

I know even some of the '05 Suzukis have the "choke" lever. I do kinda wish Buells had this. Starting the XB in single digit temps requires a little use of the throttle to keep her running for about 15-30 seconds.

Strange. I had no problems at all starting my XB12Ss this past winter here in New York. Problem with your particular bike, as opposed to a general design flaw?

No other problems whatsoever. It's a brand new '06 CityX.

I have to do the same thing starting mine when its cold out, say under 40 degrees.

Make certain your idles are set right. That can be a bit factor in this.

This morning's ride to work, it was 36F out. Didn't need to give her any throttle. So I'd say mine doesn't need it until it gets under 30. My idle is set at 1K RPM.

When it is around 20 here, my XB9 will idle very near dying for a few seconds, then either recovers nicely or needs a restart. No biggie to me.

It takes me just a few extra cranks is all and she light up just fine in like 15 or so deg... I find it harder to start when the engine is in between running temp and cold.

Well, needs a few more cranks in cold weather is normal. My truck even does that. Course, cold for us in Florida is around 50F.
