I know a lot of folks have recommended the Metzler M-1's or Pirelli Diablos. I'm leaning towards the M-1's, but am also looking at the Metzler ME-Z4's and the Continental Conti Force (or maybe even the Sport Attack).

I primarily drive to and from work. I'm a bit aggressive in the corners. Don't do wheelies (not intentionally ) or stoppies. No interest in track days. May take an occasional trip if I can get the bike to run decent enough to trust it.

Mez-4's or even the metzler z6 may be the right tire for you considering the primary
purpose being commuting.

I STRONGLY recommend the Pirelli Diablo STRADA's for the type of riding you described. I've been through a set of Pilot Power's and did not feel like I used them as they were intended. Plenty of grip wet or dry, good feel and excellent life so far. Unless something drastic happens there will be another Strada on the rear by the end of summer. I'm hoping for 8-10k total. NUTS

Nuts....looks like they just recently ended a promo on those Strada's.....$25 for the front if you bought a rear. That would have been a kick butt deal. I know 8,000+ would be nice.

I did look at those Road Attacks. Nice looking tire. Was kind of considering it but was thinking they may be more aggressive than I would need. Nice price on them. From what I'm seeing in regards to my choices, they are roughly within $10-$20 of each other.

Has anyone tried the Shinko Tires yet? I've talked with people and read articles that say nothing but good things about them. They are also extremely cheap at 82.99 for a 180/55/17 rear. I'm thinking of ordering a set just to have until my next tire change. Anyone else heard of them? I have the Conti Road Attacks, and absolutley love them!!! Have around 1K on them and can't even tell it. They stick good enough for my riding style and seem to be doing incredible on my commute.

Hmmm....those Shinko's do look interesting. Also came across Tomahawk T3's. Anyone have any experience with those?

I'm really liking my new Michelin Pilot Roads. I've been through the Dunpoops and two sets of Pilot Powers, but never used the powers to their full potential, I also use it for commuting and I'm looking for a bit more mileage. I've only got about 1500 miles on the roads, but so far they're holding up nicely and have not caused me any vinyl enema moments, even in the mountains.

I've got new pilot powers on mine and for around $240 for both front and rear, they were at my doorstep. Try http://www.tireexpress.com for a good deal.

That's actually where I was looking at tires. I have to make a decision fairly quick because the bike won't pass state inspection because the rear tire doesn't have enough tread (despite not reaching the wear bar yet). Virginia sucks.

Ran the Diablo's on my X1, and running the Metzler's on my 9R. The feel is very similar. About 3-4 K max on the back Pirelli. Metzler at 2K and showing some flats already.
Hate the new Michelins, fall in similar to the Dunlops which came on the X1. They will probably last forever. From an old-schooler, always buy NAME BRAND best tire you can afford. You'll be much happier.

Michelin Pilot Roads. Now with over 6500 commuting miles on them, and probably still have 3-4000 left. Never a scary moment, and I lean it over quite far on the weekends.

I have the conti road attack and I love the feel, very neutral and corner great. I have been riding them for close to a month and I have no chicken strips left they go all the way down with no problem. The last week I have done some serious corner hunting, and I experienced a little rear end walk powering hard out of a few turns. The bike was somewhere close to the edge of the tire but was nothing to be scared of. Over all great tire so far, we will see how long they last riding them hard. I think the M1's were discontinued in favor of the M-3. Also tire express had my tires to my door in 2 days! my two cents.

I just replaced my factory Dunlops with Metzler M3's and they are a vast improvement.

I replaced the Dunlops with the Metzler M1. I am very pleased with them. Other makes may do as well. But I think you cannot go wrong with the Metzlers.

What about the stockers that come on a CityX? Those Pirelli Scorpion Syncs are kick ass tires. So Kick ass I'm putting them on my XB12R. I've ridden a few CityX's and I love the feel, grip and confidence those tires give me.

i'm a big pirelli fan
run the scorpion sync on my XB9S streetbike
run the diablo corsa on my XB9R racebike

look at the crazy lean angle the tires allowed me to have - i didnt feel a bit unstable even at this angle because the tires were STICKY!!!

yes, i did scrape the shifter peg later in the day and i'm working on body position improvement

I am currently running the Shinko Stealth 003's on my 12 and have run them on a Z1000 last year. For the money I would say they are one of the best out there. I was able to get a front and rear delivered to my door for around $160.00. I ran the z1000 through Deal's Gap last year with them and they stick like glue. They are however NOT a high mileage tire (3000 MAX) but at the price and the level of grip, they get my money.

Buellgirlie,
I like the Buell racing patch on your leathers. Where did you get that? Do you have a part number?

sorry for the thread-jacking!

on topic: On my street bike I'm running the Pirreli Diablo Corsa's, but they are too soft for
commuting duty.

I am surprised nobody has mentioned the Avons. I run the AV45 and 46's on my xb12r. I get around 8k on them and can still lean over enough to wear off chicken stripes on the rear. I ran them across Deal's Gap twice last year with no problems, even in the rain once.

Topgun, doesn't Shinko offer something that is supposed to offer more mileage for about the same price? I'm glad to see that someone on here has tried them. My Conti's are good, but for almost twice the price I don't know if they are that good!!

Well, I ended up going with one not in my original 4 choices. It was the Shinko 009 Raven. It's supposed to be their longest mileage tire. Hopefully it has some stick to it as well. I'll let you guys know how they work out.

Got my Shinko's yesterday. Nice looking tire. Fairly deep tread. Waiting on a back rim right now and hoping to finish polishing my rear swing arm by the weekend, so hopefully by next weekend at the latest, I can at least have the rear tire mounted.
