I just noticed that my low beam head light lens is melted right in the center of the light. WOW! Is this right, do you think this will be replaced under warranty, I hope they would. I just got it out of the shop a couple of weeks ago for a fuel injection problem. Has anyone had this problem before. I have not replaced the bulbs or done anything to the lights as of yet. I was thinking of changing the bulbs to brighter lights but this changes my mind on doing that.

Fading/melting reflector housings are common on the R models, I haven't seen it very often on the S models though. Should definitely be covered under warranty. Let us know how it turns out.

Buellistic-I understand watts and the possible heat that it creates, but what does the fuel pump have to do with the light. I don't see a fuel pump around the light area. LOL! Just kidding!

Hmmm, I wonder if that is why my low beam sucks so bad. it seems to be like a halo at night, a big ring of light and a big dark spot in the center where I need to see.
I gunna check it out...till then the high beam is beeing used,, ain't been flashed yet..

I know that the purpose of the reflector is to produce a uniform parabolic shape of light onto a surface in perfect proportion of the reflecting material. In otherwords if you dont see a nice solid beam of light on the ground you reflector is warped/ melted causing the light waves to be out of phase thus cancelling each other out hence the BIG DARK SPOT on the street.

Well I took my XB12Ss to the Harley\Buell dealer and told them what was wrong with the head light. One of the techs look at the lens and said that a rock caused that, and I said look at it real hard, the lens is melted in the center and the plastic around it looks cracked. Oh! he said it is! Anyway service manager came out and looked at it and said well replace it under warranty, and it should be here next week. Oh ya, they did ask if I put different bulbs in. And I told them no. Anyway a new one is coming.

I rebuilt my XB12S headlights with twin H-4 bulbs, so both lights are on all the time during low beam AND high beam use.
Maybe I can look forward to melted plastic shells too?
I'll keep you posted, but if they do, I'll go with a good quality CNC & Quartz crystal arrangement.

I figured as much, some of our home brewed changes have found their way to production.

Erik does not post, or at least not as himself.

That / it, is a very synergistic and cool situation here.
