Hi there. I'm thinking of upgrading my 03xb9s with the 06 belt & pulley kit from americansportbike.com but one part of the upgrade is still a little fuzzy to me. I have the shop manual and can figure out
pulling the rear wheel, belt, and tensioner, but I'm not sure about swapping the front pulley.

The manual seems to include that information in the section about pulling the transmission and it gets a little confusing. Is pulling the front pulley difficult and do I need any special tools ? American Sport Bike.com also sells a locking bar tool for the tranny but I'm not sure if I need that.

Has anybody else taken this pulley off ? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Bill, 03XB9S

Easy to do as long as you remember the threads on the nut are left handed.

Hope this helps... photos. I've done the swap and it was easy. It would of been easier to have made a better "special tool" to keep the front pulley still.

Oh yeah. Torquing down the front pulley nut. My torque wrench was a cheap one and didn't work on left hand threads, that was fun.

I did the swap on mine, my belt was broke so I needed a tool to hold the front pulley. A four foot cheater bar would not break the front pulley loose. With the suggestion of others on this board I had to use a 1/2 inch air impact gun to break the pulley loose. Red Loctite is tough!!!
