I just realized I have a big dent in my muffler right under the front. I got the bike this way, and when going off the curb to the parking lot this morning I realized it was there for good reason. Does this affect anything performance-wise? Or do I need to take the muffler off, see if I can beat the dent out from inside, then gingerly walk the bike off curbs in the future?

I do a lot of things with my bike...none of which are done gingerly!

Shouldn't hurt anything peformance-wise. Both my stock muffler and my drummer have the same dent, in my case it comes from setting down wheelies too hard, but it can also come from speed bumps/curbs. I've seen the exact same dent on many an XB, haven't seen it cause a problem yet.

I have the same dent (self inflicted). It doesn't seem to affect my bike's performance. It may even be rare to find one without the dent. : D

One problem you may run in to is if you break an exhaust header stud and try to get it repaired under warranty - had a dealer insist that the dent on the bottom lead to the broken stud - even went on to say that Buell wouldn't warranty any exhaust tract related work if a dent was reported in the bottom of the exhaust.

gg, the front end off the exhaust is hollow, the pipe runs though the hollow front box ( filled with damping packing )
till about the first ( front ) jacking point, from that point on the muffler really begins
mine was dented aswell, and did some doktering with it
