BuellFirebolt31, Abingdon is right around Bristol. Very far away from me, Im not looking forward to 530 miles on 81. At least I can get in some helmet free riding in Pennsylvania.

So 211 huh? Ill look it up. How long a ride is it?

NO NO NO - 211 is now a major NO NO. It is/was great but as the fatalities rose so did the attention of the local and state constabulary. For awhile they were stopping virtually every bike just to check registration, inspection license, etc. just to hassle everyone so much that the word would get out to stay away. The word did in fact get out, and I won't be going over there anytime soon. On the pure internet rumor side I heard there was gravel that was "mysteriously" appearing in the corner (ahem . . locals) but I drove down it in the family truckster this winter and didn't see anything. (or cops for that matter but it was like 38 degrees on a Wednesday or soemthing. If you ignore my advice, do know that my Arai and Vansons have sampled the delicacy of rt 211 armco. Decreasing radaii abound.

Anyway the news I have heard is stay away from 211. That being said there are loads of great roads around here. Find Hume on the map, find middleburg, find the plains, find rectortown then connect them all with the curvy lines. Good stuff.

Call me if you are around 703.929.9109. I ride with some good guys and while I am often busy with work in the spring, it would be cool to meet someone from the badweb and I can show you the supersecret roads I won;t put on the net!

Thanks for the advice man, especially because of my lack of rearview mirrors and my loud exhaust. I know that just due to simple geography there has to be quite a few good roads in that area.

Ditto - STAY AWAY FROM 211 -
Straight Scoop - The Squidly types, along with a bunch of 'road racers' turned it into an open track situation. Before long, there were fatalities piling up and State and locals come out in force on ANY nice day.

However there are alternatives (a bunch are better roads anyway). How much time do you have? I know a lot of nice little stretches of road you might like. Give me some more details and I'll be able to plot something out for ya.

Oh, and I'll type up a nice route you'll wanna run while you're down there.. Trust me on this.

hey "Exit", i sent you a pm

i live in Abingdon and would love to show another Bueller around the local twisties...check your email and give me a shout about the day and time you will be in town and I can give you the Grand tour.

check out this website, it is where i normally ride on my days off...
www.shadyvalleycountrystore.com
they even have a pic of a blue xb9r on their homepage...

anyone ever in this area, make time to ride US421 from Shady Valley to Mountain City, TN or Shady to Bristol, or Shady to Elizabethton...there are 489 curves in a 12 mile radius of Shady. plus the Ride from Abingdon to Shady is fantastic through Backbone Rock park (home of the "world's shortest tunnel") but the three trips I listed above would give the "Dragon" a run for its money.

and if you plan on coming thru this area send me a pm and let me know ahead of time if you would like another Badwebber to ride along with.
