OK! i have been having a few problems with my XB9SX... i have fixed most of them on my own like the faulty clutch cable that snapped on me 6000 mi.! the cable barrel that locks into the lever cut my cable in half... and the pivot bolt that holds my kick stand snapped as well! i do not like leaving my bike with the jerks down at the HD in Jackson, MS... weeks at a time just to get a cheap warranty fix!!!... they will not give me a service appointment...

ok i am bitching so much that i have not even gotten to the real deal! does anybody know if the clear intake cover plastic is warranty issue? it is being held on only by the two bolts under the seat... because the areas in front are cracked completely off! i watched this slowly happen over time. started cracking just a few months after i purchased the bike! i know that clear plastic is weaker than sold colored plastic because of the lack of color die molecules...

any body else have this problem?

I don't want to insult your knowledge of these bikes, but are you sure you have the plastic washers on the screws? This is a huge deal and will help prevent this kind of stuff.

More than likely you had tightened the front just a tad to much. As for warrantying it. I dunno.

^^^The above is the next thing I can think of. Washers can allow a screw to go in without being overly tight and not coming loose.

Something else I noticed is that if I am not straight, it seems to put stress on the plastic in that area. To make matters worse, my handle bars are in the way and make it difficult to get the screw in straight.

i know that it will happen to clear plastic a lot faster than plastic with a solid color due to the molecular compound with and with out color die...

how many clear hangers are still alive in your closet?

i saw this happening 2 months after i purchased the bike, so i was very careful and tried real hard to keep them from fracturing...

maybe its my rinding stance?.. some times i lean real far forward to keep the front wheel on the ground and at high speeds... i only weight about 170...

well i love the look of the clear blue it was one of the things that sold me on getting the xb9sx over the 12 in black... i just wish it was as strong as plexiglass!

The new Translucid Orange A/B cover I bought came with some small rubber grommets and a metal sleeves/longer screws for the front 2.

I broke the front bolt holes on my hero blue clear air intake cover as well, however it was probably due to frame impact vibration when I dropped the bike. Luckily the pucks took the damage, but I did notice the crack (then complete brake) after the drop. I replaced the cover with the Kick Ash one (ala Dave of course), I was wanting to do that anyways....

Other than that the 5,500 mi on my XB9SX has been trouble free...

I have one sitting on my floor right now with cracks around the front holes. I was going to email Dave and see if he can get the kit that came with Toona's Orange cover and hopefully that will keep them from breaking anymore

Mine look to be stressed but not cracked. Looks like they may have been overtightened at the factory or the dealer.

The simple fact that the new ones come with sleeves and rubber grommets might be an indicator that BMC is aware of the problem. Give customer service a call to find out what they know.
