I tried a search but couldn't find what I was looking for. I am looking for clip-on style handle bars...not the crossroads...one's that bolt onto the forks below the triple tree...any recommendations...can I put on a set from an R???? THANKS!!!! | ||

Going with the Firebolt clip-ons is not the easiest or the cheapest way to go... but I love the results. You will need to do some metalwork on the uppertriple to remove the ignition loop; and you will need to cut some of the modules out to fit the triple. To do it right, you will also need to obtain a master cylinder from an inline import as the stock rectangle takes up too much space on the handlebar. Currently I have my grips moved out about 1/2 an inch over the end of the bars. Any 5/8 set up should work. Gentleman_jon may chime in on this as he has done this already. Lastly you will need to run the clutch cable through the left module. Be care with the routing of this cable. If not run properly the cable will pull the wireloom out of the gauge cluster when the bars are turned completely to either side. | ||

We have fitted a couple of different sets of clip ons to our xb's over the years. The first ones were from Crossroads, but not the XB bars. These are 54mm clip on bars that have a very narrow mounting collar, allowing them to be mounted above the triple tree or below on the XB. They are of course excellent quality.  The second time we used LSL billet clip-ons for our race bike. These are fabulous, light and have replaceable bars in the event of an accident.  I would certainly recommend either type. | ||

We sell both of these, although for the Crossroads parts it would be easier for you to deal direct with them as they are a US company. You can get them on (715) 247-4747. The LSL bars would cost around US$166 plus shipping. The handlebars are available in red, blue, gold, silver, black or purple whilst the mounts are in silver only. | ||

The only mods that you may have to do are: 1. Fit the clutch cable from an R model that has the metal cable guide at the lever end. This just seems to fit better. 2. You may need to space out the front screen/headlight/instrument brackets to clear the bar clamps. We had to do this with the Crossroads bars and used some 1/2" dia. alloy tubing and longer mounting bolts. This does mean that you lose the steering head lock function, but I never used it anyway (prefer a big chain and padlock!). Other than that it is very straightforward. I can't be more exact on the LSL bars aas we have different forks/triple trees fitted to our bike. Here is a better view of the Crossroads bars on our XB9S.  | ||

Bad, You might want to consider different way to skin that cat, that is a bit easier to install and pay for. The Laverda Jota Clubmans bars fit on the standard Lightning top triple tree, but give a riding position that is very much like clip ons. Here is how they look on the original Laverda Jota of the 1970's. These bars are still being made, and cost about $130.  | ||
