Damn, that was fun!

The day started out cold (24 degrees) & bright but it warmed up to acceptable temps quickly. The first timers group (about 30 of us I think) got classroom instruction from Team Promotion, then track time, then instruction, then track time etc. until lunch. It was really very informative. I've been riding 44 years and I learned a great deal from these guys. Maybe you can teach an old dog some new tricks.

After lunch they let us all out on the track and staged us with maybe 5 riders to a coach. This was the really fun part for me. The last two outings the coaches pointed at me to stay on their tail and we really took it up a notch or three. It was a great learning experience to follow these guys on the correct line, with the correct body positioning and to pass many other riders.

A few guys ran off the track into the mud but no one was hurt and the bikes had minimal damage.

I really want to thank Seth and Pete from Edison Buell/HD for staging the event and providing lunch, music and a warm place to sit. Thanks guys.

I also want to thank Anthony C. (mutation_racer) and his tech, Phil from Liberty Buell/HD for helping me out. I was demonstrating the sound of the Drummer SS when I had just started my bike in 24 degrees. We got to blipping the throttle when the engine was cold (stupid) and fouled a plug. I went off to the riders meeting and when I got back Phil had changed the plugs and the bike was warmed up and running perfectly. How can you beat that? Its like having your own pit crew. I can't thank you guys enough.

Both Liberty and Edison are really great Buell dealers.

That ART class was great and the insructor riders were really good. i spent most of down my time with the SV guys i came with. i owed it to them after the time we had, NOT, on Sat in the ice and snow at the track.

i did come down and get a nice hot dog and soda, saw some really cool Buells and had the best time i have ever had on two wheels.

coming off a softail to a sport bike was really different for me but i started to get it by the end of the day and really thrashed those stock dunlops in a melted mess.

i cant wait to do it again.

Thanks everyone.

Tim (from Iraq)

Henrik, The first run of the morning had my fingers numb, but after that it was fine. I did throw a sweatshirt over my leathers for the day and I was quite comfortable. Once you get out on the track, you're workin' pretty hard as you know.

Glad to hear it was good. I want to go next year. By the time I found out, it was too late for me to get in this year. Anthony C. and Phil are great guys. Anthony sold me my bike and Phil has been doing the work on it.

Well 'guys' I had a ton of fun, the morning was indeed cold and it was great seeing all of the buells together. Once the afternoon warmed up, I did some passing on the back straight and then to finish out the day by dragging my left foot peg through a turn I was pretty stoked. That and being the only chick on a Buell and this being my 2nd track day you couldn't shake the smile off my face. I enjoyed leaving the camera at home to spend my time on a track riding it!

PS. I think I need to change my screen name??

Wendy - How about FastGirl! Speaking of cameras, there were a lot of photographers taking pics there. Do they contact you or do you seek them out like a ski resort?

You have to see them out, the photographer who is race promotion's photographer is www.racedayphoto.com The pictures are up from yesterday. You just look up whatever group you were in and find yourself. You can buy individual photos or a disk.

I like FastGirl but does that count as jinxing yourself?

It was an excellent day.

Thanks to Pete and Seth for getting it organized.

Great group of people. I met racers of the mutation and pirate type, as well as guys of the Jersey persuasion and many other good folks from the board and otherwise.

Count me in for the next one.

In regards to the girl rider discussion above, there was also a woman on a tuber with a cool turquoise and checkered flag paint job on the tank, riding in the red group. At least there was a woman in leathers standing beside it in the staging area. I also know I saw the bike on the track, but paid no attention to the rider.

Hey, I had great time as well.. Despite how my day ended (the shoulder is still sore...) But the bike should be ready by the 24th (TPM at Summit Point) and I'll be there (once I order my replacement lid)..

Sad to say, I think they got me confused with the other blue Firebolt, since I only found 4 shots of me. Not going to bother ordering any this time. maybe next time, they'll get a good one of me that I'll want..

Oh, and on a personal note.. I think Wendy and I may be better 'Buells In Action Photographers' but, then again, I'm biased..

Its Saturday April 8 at 8:15 am 32-34 degrees, the heavy rain has mutated in to heavy sleet, im already soaked to the core and that was just the ride to registration and tech. Its going to be a great track weekend!! I hope I don't have 35+ angry buell riders on my hands..
Fast forward 24 hours to Sunday and its bright and sunny and a scorching 26 degrees and the parking lot is full of track ready Buells.(over 40 Buells as a matter of fact!!!!!) It did warm up and allow for a awesome day of track riding with some really great people. I hope you all enjoyed our event.

I want to give a big thanks to all of the Buellers who came to shred the track as well as those who were there to support and cheer us on. with out all of you, well,id be riding alone..
This event was a great success and im sure its stories will be told over and over.

Also, a big thanks to Linda, Glen, Dave and the rest of the folks at www.teampromotion.com for hosting a safe and fun event.
Ill post some of the pics when I get a minute. till then, anyone who has pics, post em if you got em.
Thanks again to all and im glad that everyone had a great time. well do it again soon.

Seth Buchbinder
HD/Buell of Edison

P.S. it looks as though some of us will be having a fast pace easter egg hunt this Sunday back at the Pocono Raceway East course.( track days are a drug)

What can I say? Despite the bitter cold start, that was the best track day I've ever been to. I wish Saturday worked out better for those who where trying to make it into a two day event.

This is my forth season on a Buell and I'm beginning my third season doing track days with TPM. I've been to about 10-12 events with them so far and at any one given event there s been a maximum of 6 Buells in a field 75 bikes. Basically, the same couple of Buell riders would go; Andy, Craig, Anthony, Seth, Art, Cristine and myself. Periodically we would see another one here or there, but we were always the minority.

I just want to say that it felt completely and totally incredible see all the Buells out number the rest of the sport bikes at a track event. Oh, and it sounded real good too!

For all you guys and girls that completed the ART Basic program, I hope that you have been bitten by the track bug and can find the time to go on your own. If so, this season will be way more fun, just knowing that at any given track day there may just be more than 6 Buell friends waiting to ride!

Thanks again for all the kind words. Seth and I worked hard along with our buddies at TPM to make this event a reality. Thanks also to Liberty Buell and Ocean County Buell for helping us assemble the roster. We will definitely do this again before the season is through.

Hope you all liked the hot dog cart. Pete

Seth, Pete,
What can I say? If I'm going to be freezing, wet and miserable on a Saturday, at least I got to do it with quality people! I'll post some pics as soon as I can, I need to convert, then crush them.

Seth, I take it you got that new belt on already? I still need a turn signal

Sunday (once it warmed) was a great day! And Pete, the hot dog cart was a classic touch.. Maybe, we can use it as a rallying point of some sort? 'sides, the dogs were good, the company was better and I can't wait to see you again, soon..

Hey guys and gals.. anyone planning on doing Summit Point on the 24th (another TPM day)? If so, look for me so we can all pit together again..

Ok.. Now it's time to start posting a few pics.. Sorry for the quality.. But as you know, I have to really crush these things from my original images so they can be posted here.

Now with that small almost a forgive me for these.. let's talk cold on the first day shall we?

01

Yep, stuff out in the cold and the rain..

02

Cold and grey..

03

Rain, Sleet..

04

Cold...

05

A touch of sleet..

Now, those of us that were there, we tried to amuse ourselves.. and have a nice time waiting to find out if..

06

and when they would call the day..

But like all true Buell types.. Hell, it was 'Bad Weather'.. and we were ready to (I hope you'll forgive the pun) 'Bike' ..

07

Did I happen to mention the..

08

Ice...

Nobody could hide from it,

09

It was .. everywhere..

So we have..

10

Buells..

11

Under ice..

Yeah, we didn't really need sun protection..

12

But rain and ice.. Now that we needed cover for..

13

Had to dump the excess that kept building up in the tent..

We kept in good spirits..

14

Seth, commenting on the weather from inside our makeshift club house..

15

Thanks again for bringing the Edison H-D Buell Truck.. and the space heater..

We talked, bitched and joked about the day and life in general..

16

Some sought warm beverages..

17

Some commented on the state of the universe

18

While others just wished they were in Florida..

19

Or at least anyplace warmer and drier then we were that day..

All in all, it was still a good day, with good folks..

20

We all just wish there was more riding to be done..

Thanks Seth..

21

For helping make even a day this ugly .. Tolerable.

That was a great track day.

Ok, Pete had asked me to write a summary of the event, for possible submission for a Future BRAG newsletter.

here goes, feel free to opine/suggest changes:

For the last few years, Seth Buchbinder and Pete Alesso, Buell salesmen for Buell of Edison, NJ, have noticed that they and a few of their friends were the only Buell riders they would encounter as they indulged in their track day addiction. ‘It’s all ways the same gang, five, maybe six Buells in a sea of sport bikes going around the track.” Pete observed.

This year they decided to change that, and along with some help from two other New Jersey Buell dealers, Ocean County and Liberty Buell, they tried to round up as many Buell riders they could to participate in a Track Day at Pocono International Raceway.

Their efforts were rewarded when over 35 Bueller’s signed up and braved sub freezing temperatures to hit the track on Sunday April 9th on the East course of the Raceway with Team Pro Motion. In fact the Buell group was so large that it had to be split into two!

In addition to the ART BASIC instruction provided by Team Pro Motion, Pete and Seth arranged for some extra tutoring in the form of free suspension advice and setup from Art Diaz, Buell racer, CCS track champion, who likes to say that suspension is the best bang for the buck modification that you can do and the one that pays the most dividends both on the track and on the street. Buell riders that had just returned from the track after having their suspensions setup by Art wholeheartedly agreed.

All this on track action had to be captured, and they had that covered, with an official event photographer who roamed the track and the pits looking for that perfect shot of a Buell & rider in action.

Finally, you knew it would come down to food, and they had that covered too, with all the hot dogs, pizza and drinks you could ever need. The Hot Dog cart was the talk of the pit lane.

All in all it was a great day for Buell riders, new skills were learned, new friendships were made and hopefully from now on Pete and Seth won’t be so alone out there on the track.

Hey Jose.. Sounds like the concise, quick note that Fuell would want to run on it.. Coolness..

Now, since I posted some from the first day there.. Here's some from the actual date..

First Timers were more then happy that the weather cooperated and they got to ride..

21

The pits were a hotbed of activity as Buells

22

from all over closed in on the short Pocono East Track..

Art Diaz gives a brief, but informative clinic on suspension.

23

It was pretty cool to have him there, you tell him what you're feeling..

24

and he would make a couple of quick adjustments..

25

That's Wendy (Blastgirl) looking on as I snap the shot.

Jose was just beamin' with excitement at the first track day of the year..

25

Friends even dropped in from WAY out of town..

26

just to spend a little time riding with us..
Stay safe once your back there Tim.

The hot dog cart in the pits was a stroke of genius.. Or at least a fun rally point in the pits..

27

Everyone,

28

Getting ready

We had all sorts there..

A Race Pirate and his lady..

30

A champion racer talking skills and the like..

31

And of course, he seemed to always have a small crowd with him..

32

Roger and Art, kept working on every bike that was brought to them.

33

Roger..

34

looking on as his on track partner works on the other side of the bike..

The various levels of 'Pit set-ups' covered all the possibilities..

35

Some Buellin' types didn't ride..

36

but were there, lookin' after and over those of us that did..

Yep, those dogs were good.

37

As a matter of fact,

38

they were worth going back for seconds..

Some folks.. 'Ate and rode'

39

And some.. well.. they were just happy to fire up and head out..

40

Hope he remembers the lid and gloves before he heads out onto the track!

41

Well, I suppose that is just about all I have picture wise from this one.. It was, as already stated.. a great day all around.
