I didn't put the kickstand down all the way and my bike fell over in my driveway... somehow nothing got scratched but my clutch lever snapped, foot peg snapped and foot shifter nub snapped off... damn this metal is crappy. My local shop had all the parts I needed except when I got the foot shifter it doesn't have anything in the place where you bolt it to the primary case... can I take the one out of my old shifter and put it in this one? Also, does anyone know if the after market parts are stronger metal than this stuff? Thanks.

In the quest for lighter and lighter weight it seems that bikes don't take falls as well as they used to.

I highsided my 81 KZ440 a few years ago, and I was more banged up than the bike. About $50 later with a headlight and handlebars from ebay, the bike was as good as new.

Sorry to hear about your mishap.

Wait, wait, wait...Let me get this straight...You dropped your bike. I'm presuming it was on cement, or equally hard surface and you're pissing here because it broke? Next time drop it on the grass! Or pillows.

My guess is those pieces are designed to come apart easier than earlier heavy iron...Trust me, a clutch lever through your thigh is a sucky experience. Personally, I'd rather it broke of.

The Salesman at the Dealership dropped my new to be XB12Ss while wheeling it out from the back of the shop and the Front Brake Lever Bent and the Right side Foot peg broke off. The look on his face was priceless. The incident did make the price negotiation swing in My favor.

Earwig I did the same thing with my bike when I first got it. I had to move the passanger peg up and the clutch lever broke in the middle.. Two weeks to get my parts in..

i have crg levers, crossroads shifter and rear brake and lsl pegs.definitely stronger than stock but if i dropped it something else would probably break, like the primary case where the shifter bolts to it.they look cool though.

Been there and done that. I really can't complain.

Just compare with an equally fragile bike.

Yamaha R1

Clutch lever $27
Shift Pedal $100
Left Foot Peg $80

Buell

Clutch lever $13
Shift Pedal $25
Left Foot Peg $13

Add to that a [usually] considerably shorter wait time in ordering / replacement compared to many of the metric bikes parts.

I want to ammend that thought:

It does pay to call around one's self to a couple of dealerships to see if they have a part on hand rather than just waiting. Some shops will just place an order and not take the effort to check HD.net [I think that's the name] to see if it can be expidited / pulled from nearby.

DaveS is a prime example of a forward thinking stocker - I think / believe that he keeps known tip-over parts on hand... He got me back on the road a couple of weeks earlier than would have been once already.

Another point to consider:

Is it better to break a clutch lever or break the whole clutch lever mounting assembly and possibly bend the bars.
Is it better to bust a foot shifter or bend the shift shaft inside the engine?
Is it better to break a footpeg or bend the whole footpeg mount and possibly the frame?
All these parts are relatively cheap and take minutes to replace. Consider yourself lucky.

Ditto all the five star posts above. Way to go guys! You've left me nothing to say here to dear Earwig. : )

But as to the following:

"Two weeks to get my parts in.."

I suspect strongly that said parts were not put on order with Buell for at least one of those weeks.

Breaking parts are your wallets best friend. Dumped my GSXR a couple of years ago and the amount of damage caused by the trendy anodised brake lever made me cry. It caused the housing and master cylinder to split.

The one part I highly recommend replacing altogether, are the footpegs. After laying down my too tall city cross, and going through a couple stock pegs, myself, I bought the traction foot pegs from Buell and they seem considerably stronger...a girl down here, a small girl, mind you, stood on her pegs going over train tracks and one broke off, not pretty. Other than that, just be thankful the levers are cheap and that they take the brunt of the hurties...
I wonder, in terms of murphy's law, if you get a replacement part for each of the typical breakies, and keep them on hand, if you might screw with the gods of fate and maybe they'd never break off again! lol

Your friendly local dealer. MSRP $12.75 + tax

or Daves + shipping.

Part# NO520.02A8

The peg may be a tad more expensive now. I replaced my frame pucks last week and the price had gone up $10. Still cheap tip over insurance.
