I'm going to be making the purchase of a new xb9 in the next few weeks. I understand the race kits are getting hard to come by. Wondering if it's really worth it.

I don't want to sacrifice low and mid torque to get top end, and I don't need ultimate top speed. Normally I'd wait and get used to stock first, then if I thought I needed more, I'd do the mods, but with the possible loss of race kits, it's got me wondering if I should just do it all while I can.

Get a drummer, race ECM, and a filter. You will be happy, that should give you power everywhere. If you want to go cheap, go with a jardine, but dont expect to jack the bike up anymore.

I wouldn't get in too big of a hurry for the pipe in particular unless you're absolutely sure that's the one you want. There are many pipes on the market, each with it's own advantages. In this case, it is a personal taste thing.

Buy the XB12 instead and you will have both. Dollarwise it should be about the same as having the dealer install the race kit on the XB9, no?

I have the factory race kit on my xb12 it is a nice package with more power everywhere than stock. I too think the pipe is a preference thing. Dont buy anything you cant jack against though, good advice CCM, anyway the buell race pipe is nice because it has a high quality finish good power and it's not too loud. Most of the other aftermarket set-ups out there are loud to defening. I like loud pipes to a point so listen to a few before purchasing a set. The race ecm and filter are a must no mater which pipe you choose agreed again with CCM. The tiforce pipe looks awesome by the way. Anyone have one out there?

Also remember a race ecm is not necessarily a must now that stock ecms can be mapped.

I agree with all advise to wait and read about the many pipes out there before you buy.

I don't place value on the jacking feature as I use a rear stand, but that also falls under the "personal preference" header.

IMO there are better set-ups out there than the race kit.
