Is it ok to install a Buell Race Pipe without the ECM & air filter upgrades? I am SICK of the stock exhaust, but don't have the cash to get the whole kit right now. I'm hesitant though, because I don't want to adversely affect the A/F ratio or confuse my stock ECM too much.

I would wait, but I've made up my mind it's the pipe I want and the fact that it's been recently discontinued has me running scared.

As always, thanks for the input.

You'll get a mixed bag of answers on this one.

Some will say they've done it for years with no problems.

However, because of seemingly minor differences from bike to bike and location to location this anecdotal evidence is not reliable.

The EPA mandates that these bikes run lean from the factory. That's a fact.

By reducing the back-pressure in your exhaust system you risk causing the bike to run even leaner.
This could cause severe damage to your motor. I recommend saving your money and doing it right.

Take this for what it's worth. It's only the opinion of someone you've never met, given via an internet forum.

Do a little research and weigh the risk versus rewards and act accordingly.

Truthfully I don't think you would have a problem running it with the stock ecm. I ran a jardine pipe on my bike for a while with no race ecm or filter and it was ok and the jardine flows way better than the race pipe. If you run the race pipe with the stock ecm leave the stock filter in also, don't try to put on the K&N with the stock ecm, and you shouldn't have a problem.
