Trust me I'm not an old fart and I don't have to waste much energy to prove it to anyone. I have earned every day I have lived. Done lots of very exciting things. been places served for 26 years in the Coast Guard which gave me lots of living on the edge rushes. I would not want anyone to conform to me I am an individual. I do wish to be taken as an adult not as a child. Try it some time. The point you are missing here is that this is a Buell board. No one doubts that there are faster bike out there. There are like yourself others on this board that have multiple bikes of different makes. I wish I could but I don't. This is not about mine is bigger / better than yours. It is about a shared like / love for a mark. There are a lot of people on this board that have one bike and only one bike that is all they can afford and it is their pride and joy. Are you the type of guy that would bash someone for their choice of spouse? If they tried to defend their wife would you berate them the way you have those who have defended their choice of bike? Just chill out. Come to Maine we will go for a ride. No race, no pink slips, just a fun ride. We have lots of challenging rides up here. Maybe I can learn something from you. After all I have only been back at this for about three years. By the way if you ever want to give away the tractor bike I for one would love it. Lord knows I can't afford it yet.

This is as much my fault as his. I know better than to get into this kind of monkey business. It never goes anywhere.

So anyway, check your oil filter. It might be leaking from there if its not the oil lines.

"I dont recall anybody ever making testimony that their 1200 can beat a 600, if someone has and I overlooked it amidst all of the shit in this thread I stand corrected"

Stand corrected! It was stated several times that a Buell could beat my Aprilia RSVR Factory.
And, I'm very sorry, but anyone who could possibly believe that, is either seriously delusional, or living under a rock!
And yes, I AM a “grumpy old man”. 55 years old & arthritic. That’s exactly why I bought the Buell, because it’s a “Beginners Bike”!!!
Look, I’ve made many comments derogatory of the Aprilia too. I just call it like I see it, which is usually the way it is!
Kudos to Mr_Cuell though! Seriously!!!

"This is as much my fault as his. I know better than to get into this kind of monkey business. It never goes anywhere."

This kind of thing takes a REAL man and a person of true intellect! We might even be friends someday!
Sincerely, CC

After reading his posts and knowing he's been kicked off the aprilia site 28 times, it's obvious the guy is nothing more than a firestarter and nothing more. I'm ashamed I gave him any more credit than I did.

"Wow! Very observant! You must be a REAL “Biker”! That WAS the first week I owned the Aprilia. Your Firebolt probably hasn’t seen half that MPH ever, either!
Very much like when a reporter yelled to Truman, "Give 'em hell Harry!"
Truman responded, "I don't give 'em hell, I just tell them the truth and they think it's hell!"
Not a "Harley Hater", just telling it like it is, as always."

Actually, my firebolt will do alot over half of that. If your buell is a 12r or s, you can probably do well over 130. with a bit of work youll be in the 150 range. If your riding a 9, Im not sure how fast you can go, Ive never ridden one. How many miles do you have on the aprilia, what year is it? just wondering. just for the record I do like your bike, I test rode one before I bought the buell.

I really don't understand why we don't ban trolls immediately . . .

quote:

You guys are just like the "Bikers" with your brand devotion!

I do partake in brand devotion and I love the heck out of my Buell, but I've also got three Hondas in my garage and I'm shopping for a Yamaha. Implying that I'm blindly devoted to Buell and can't enjoy another brand just isn't true. This past Saturday I spent the day thrashing a KTM and loved it.

quote:

If you want to make it worth my while and put up titles, I'll meet you on the Dragon, me on my Aprilia & you on your Buell, but I guarantee you, within the first mile, you won't even be able to see me!

Just so we're clear- it's the bike that's going to win that race, and not the rider? If that's the case, we should be able to switch bikes and run it again and see me on your Aprilia out of sight in the first mile, and you struggling to keep up on my '60s technology Buell (when was water cooling invented?).

Seriously man, you've got to give this up. I've ridden the Mille, I know it's fast. It makes way more peak power than the Buell and will hit a much higher top speed as well as a much lower quarter mile ET, no one is arguing otherwise. Stating any of those facts would have been fine. However, you stated that there's no way the Buell could keep up with the Aprilia and anyone who believed otherwise was delusional. That's where the problem lies. I've chased "high-tech" (when did they invent DOHC?) around the track and I've passed it, numerous times. Sometimes it's on the brakes, sometimes it's on corner exit, and sometimes it's on the straights, but the superior imports have been kept up with and passed by me on my Buell with its "junk Harley motor"- a feat you said couldn't happen.

You said you never back down from a challenge, so I've got a good one for you-

Take your Buell to the track. You'll need to finish breaking it in first but that shouldn't take very long for a guy who puts ~1600 miles on an RSV-R in a week. If you spend a day thrashing your Buell at the track and the junk Harley motor doesn't hold up or don't pass a single high-tech import, you win. I don't have any material things to offer a guy as well off as you claim to be, but I'll bet we can get Blake to set you up with your very own thread for Buell bashing, or spade calling, however you see it. If he won't, we can make up some "Buells suck, Chris rules" stickers or whatever to put on my bike.

However, if that junk Harley motor makes it through the day and you manage pass a few imports, I win. As a matter of fact, I'll extend it further and bet that you even come away a better rider. I don't really care to win anything, but since you mentioned being so well off you can buy me a set of tires. However, you win too, by finding out that cheap junk you bought is capable of going pretty darn quick, despite using what you refer to as '60s technology.

Are you up for it, or are you going to back down from the challenge?

How come all those other riders out there racing can't even beat the 600's???
Must be your amazing, magical riding skills.
Anyone who thinks ANY Buell, even the XBRR (Which by the way, makes only 150 HP!) can beat a liter bike, ANY liter bike, on the track, or anywhere, is out of touch with reality!
Again, If YOU'RE SOOO fast, Why aren't the Buells beating the 600's on the track??

"If your buell is a 12r or s, you can probably do well over 130."

I've got an '04 XB12S, at about 132 MPH it's bouncing off the rev limiter in top gear with the stock gearing! And, at that speed, it’s pretty damn scary, compared to almost every other sport bike I’ve ridden!

My Aprilia is an '04 RSVR Factory, with full Olins suspension & 140 RWHP. I've got over 24000 miles on it, but I only use it while I'm in NJ. I spend my winters in FL, where the Buell is a more appropriate bike, with the less challenging road conditions down here.
Will you guys please just give it up? I don’t “hate Harleys”; in fact I quite enjoy my Buell, but don’t try and convince me it’s the “fastest, best handling, smoothest, most reliable motorcycle ever built”! I’ve been riding, wrenching & racing for the past 40 years and I’m just not that stupid!!!

I am a strong beleiver in the "dont argue with the idiot because the idiot will always win" quote. So I will say only this CC. If you followed this guys engine break0in secrets maybe thats why your engine is leaking oil. Shouldve went by the owners manual. Second, we have a saying in the military about machinery. "If its not leaking oil somethings wrong" Its kind of ironic how the strongest country in the world uses "tractor technology" in its massive machinery. Third, SAAB's and BMW are designed off of Jet concepts, this does not mean you can take them to 100 and expect lift off. Neither a SAAb or a BMW is a jet. Give Buell some credit, I know you fell in love with the short wheel base, and track bike design.
You should do that track challenge. See if you pass any imports, these motors are a lot stronger than you think.

Before I even get started, you completely ignored my challenge, something you said you never do. Right there you just pegged yourself as being dishonest- even to yourself. From here on out anything else is a waste of time, you've already proven you're full of it.

You were just spouting exaggerations, but now you've moved into complete nonsense. You say there's no way the bike can even keep up, I say I've seen and done it, you spout off with this crazy rant. I never made any claims to being a great rider- I'm not. How do you expect me to respond to this, really?

quote:

Anyone who thinks ANY Buell, even the XBRR (Which by the way, makes only 150 HP!) can beat a liter bike, ANY liter bike, on the track, or anywhere, is out of touch with reality!

Well then I'm out of touch with reality, that's all there is to it. Apparently so are many other people. At a track day with NESBA on VIR South last spring I had a control rider approach me in the paddock asking about the motor in my Buell. He had come out of oak tree right behind me on his RC51 and didn't start gaining on me till halfway down the ~3500ft straight. He's an instructor, way more talented than I am. Clearly he could turn much quicker laps than I could, yet in this case I held him off in a ~1500ft drag race. How could it be? My explanation is that it was a combination of more low end power, shorter gearing, and possibly a higher exit speed. Your explanation is that it just didn't happen. You think either I'm lying, or NESBA instructors are squids. Rather than deal with facts, you stuff your head in the sand and make personal attacks.

quote:

I've really tried to see things from your point of view, but I can't get my head that far up my ass!

Since the ad hominem is already flying- try pulling your head the other way.

"You interrupt what is normally polite discourse to challenge others to your own little pissing match, then resort to yelling, name calling and boasting about how well off you are."

Lets get a few things straight here!!!
If you look back at my original post, All I did was say, “Mine does the same thing with 240 miles on it. I just attributed it to the junk Harley motor.”
It was EVERYONE else who started the pissing match.
My impression of the Harley motor is one shared by almost anyone with a brain, who has any mechanical experience! If I hurt your feelings, I’m sorry, but you can stop crying now!
If you are all so brand devoted, or thin skinned as to allow yourselves the lapse of reality, go play with your Buells. Don’t argue with me!
It’s obvious you believe what you believe and I know what I know. There’s no shortage of people out there that believe their going to get 72 virgins when they die either!
I had a Volkswagen bus that passed a Lamborghini once too! Does that mean the V-dub is faster & better handling???
There are a very few on here with something to contribute and real knowledge, Al for one. THAT part of this site gives it value.
I can see that with the rest of you, this is a waste of both your AND my time.
Just attend to your own reality where Buells are the fastest, best handling bikes around.
I can no more convince you of reality, than I can convince another there’s not really 72 virgins waiting for them!
So, why don’t you ALL take your own advice and “stop arguing with an idiot”?

I don't need to tell you this, but that's how trolling works. You throw out a little insult as bait, then see who bites and engage them. When things don't work out, you resort to personal attacks and challenges. It's textbook trolling, really.

quote:

My impression of the Harley motor is one shared by almost anyone with a brain, who has any mechanical experience!

See, right back to the personal attacks. Anyone who doesn't agree with you has no brain.

quote:

If you are all so brand devoted

I already refuted your premise of brand devotion. First you concede by ignoring it, no you bring it back up as if it's still valid.

quote:

I had a Volkswagen bus that passed a Lamborghini once too! Does that mean the V-dub is faster & better handling???

Again, when presented with facts, you resort to sarcasm. Just to entertain your odd proposal, if the Lamborghini and the VW were both driven by equally skilled drivers both trying to go as fast as possible, then we would have to concede that the VW is in fact capable of keeping up with the Lamborghini.

quote:

So, why don’t you ALL take your own advice and “stop arguing with an idiot”?

Frankly, it's gotten entertaining. I'm curious as to what you'll spew out next.

The stock Aprilia speedo retains the maximum velocity recorded and allow you to recall it later. Neat feature, but on the street it's really only useful for squids.

I was talking to a guy who owns Aprilias and he was showing me all the do dads on the bike like the one above and all I could think was, "wtf is the point of all this crap?". He never goes to the tracks, but kept going on and on how great all of it was. I just rolled me eyes because I saw no value in it, but whatever makes you happy.

"I will say only this CC. If you followed this guys engine break0in secrets maybe thats why your engine is leaking oil."

You just may have a valid point there!
Those procedures are designed for engine designs of this century!
It sounds like a couple of you have spent a little time around a racetrack. Next time you’re there, ask someone with some age & experience (Not a teen-ager on a Buell!) what the proper break-in procedure is.
This has been something that is common knowledge among racers and mechanics for years now, but based on the repartee here, I’m not surprised no one is aware of it.

“If you want to be banned, just say so. If not, stop it now.”

Blake, I’m assuming you are an administrator? It is not my desire to be thrown off of this, or any other forum!
If you go back to the beginning and read EVERY post, it should be obvious that I wasn’t the one who started slinging the shit. That is, unless you count my comment about the Harley engine being junk. Just my opinion.
Even still, I don’t see how that should have elicited the shit storm of retribution it has?!?
When I am attacked, I ALWAYS attack back. Maybe not politically correct, or even socially acceptable, but it’s just the way I have survived my whole life.
I HAVE been riding, racing & wrenching for nearly 40 years and can make valuable contributions to this forum. If I am guilty of anything, it’s my inability to tolerate shit from anyone, but I’ll leave it up to you, it’s your ball, you play the game by your rules.
Sincerely, CC, Forum Terrorist
