Has anyone mounted a pair of these? How did you fit them in? What kind of relay did you use? Thanks in advance!

Good one, Kdan... I'll take two of them. One for each side of the bike. Maybe Al from American Sport Bike can make an air scoop out 'em, too.

The Freeway Blaster is a 132db aftermarket horn replacement (I Googled a reference at http://www.webbikeworld.com/t2/horn-relay/motorcycle-horn-relay.htm). You can buy them singly or in dual-tone pairs. Only problems I see is that mounting space is already pretty tight for the stock horn (on my Firebolt, anyways), and each Blaster draws 5 amps of juice. The brake/horn fuse is rated at 15 amps, so a 10 amp draw for a pair of Blasters might be OK.

Anything louder than the stock horn would be an improvement.

I may have to mount both on the frame up under the steering head with sufficient spread so as not to get whacked at full fork compression at lock.

Yeah, 10 amps plus the draw of the brake lights might be pushing that fuse. No biggie. I think the idea is to use a relay to develop full horn volume:

I did quite a bit of reading/research before I bought a Stebel Nautilus Compact horn. www.stebel.it
This thing is soooooo LOUD.
I said . . . . . . THIS THING IS SOOOOO LOUD!!!!

It is an Electropneumatic type (air operated), unlike the Freeway Blasters which are Electromagnetic (electric diaphram??).
But being air operated is not a big deal, as the compressor comes attached within the one compact unit.
The Freeway Blasters are single tone, you get the hi-low pair to be most effective. (something about sound frequencies).
The Nautilus is a dual tone unit, both horns on the one body.

Generally, installing one is not too hard, the relay is included; just wire and terminals are required.
My installation is on an XB12S, not sure about the placement on an XB12R, is there much room behind the fairing?
If you are shopping for one, be wary that there is both the standard size, and compact Nautilus models. I have the compact.

If anyone is interested, I can post the details of my installation.
As there is minimal room on the XB12S, I had to separate the compressor from the horn body; but with a lot of thought (and a few beers!) it is mounted very discreetly.

It will be one of the best safety upgrades you can do.
And wait till you try it, no car, van, dog, cow, person, will get in your way !!!

Here is a sample installation:

That looks great. I don't think there's room on a 'bolt for it. I'll have to take a tape measure out to the garage and investigate.

Stebel Nautilus Compact Horn installation - XB12S:

The compressor needs to be separated from the horn body. This is easy to do.

After trimming some excess plastic, the horn will fit where the original horn is, being wedged between the flyscreen and the key barrel.
The horn needs to be secured, I made up a bracket. Also, a short length of plastic tube needs to be glued in place to attach a rubber hose from the compressor.

I mounted the compressor behind the oil cooler.

A relay is supplied. I managed to fit this to the side of the ECM, next to the battery.
A tight fit without having to make up an extra bracket.

The extras you'll need are an in-line fuse from the battery, wire, crimp terminals, heat-shrink or tape.

See the pictures for the general mounting positions.
If anyone buys one of these horns and would like a bit more detail for installation, PM me and I will send you some more photos.

(I found the horn for a great price on eBay)

Cheers.

Oldnotbold, I sent you my install details.
Do you think it will fit the same behind the flyscreen?

Kurosawa, how did you go with your install.
What do you think about the horn?
