Team

I have a 2003 XB9S and am wondering what is the correct full tank fill point. Manual did not indicate a specific point to fill and leave room for fuel expansion. Below the fuel cap opening is a dark(black) collar that looks like it opens up to the larger tank proper. Is this the official fill point? Any information as I would like to get full tank but do not want fuel coming out of the vent hose onto the bike.

Thanks

Wayne

You have it right. Go too much above that lower ring and you'll have fuel coming out of the overflow.

I try to leave it just below the lower ring.

Filled up past the ring one time and as soon as I started the bike, gas started coming out of the overflow, right on the hot muffler.

Not good.

Weird I slightly overfill all the time. No leakage.

I've only had it spit gas out once. I try not to overfill, but I'm guilty of it once in a while.

A lot of it has to do with ambient temperature. If its a cool day and you put cold gas into a warm reservoir (your tank/frame), it will inherently expand. On cooler days, I am more conscience of how full I fill it.
