Went to install the undertail onto the bike today and ran into yet another issue.
The blinker sockets hit the luggage compartment and keep it from going up into place. WTF.

So my question is.. Am I missing something? Do you have to cut up the luggage compartment?

Any info, ideas, hints, ect, are welcome. Thanks.

Yes, you have to cut it or remove it completely. I removed mine.

Damn it. I really didn't want to do that. Oh well, thanks.

any possibility of using a heat gun and molding the tray to clear the tail?
Just a thought.

Thats a good idea, but I would have to mold it about an inch to clear the socket. I'll mess with it more this week. I think I may just drill a hole and be done with it. I'll still have a compartment (though not much of one).

I had the regular lights in my undertail first, and I just took the compartment out. Call Al and see if he has any of the led lights that came with mine. You could put them right over the holes from the regular lights. The leds are small enought that there isn't a clearance problem.

Dangit, that's why I had problems today. I measured once and drilled like 5 or 6 times. : ( I had to do some makeshift fabbing of brackets for routers, switches, and filers, with limited tools. : )

I'm interested in that tail piece, but I might need a black one because my red is dyed darker. Can you dye this tailpeice? I don't like the idea of losing more space either. : (

I was wondering about dying the Ermax myself a while back. I really wanted to change the color of my bike up, but I don't have the cash for a paint job right now. I think that the undertail would come out a different color because it seems to be made out of different material. Anyone else have any thoughts about that?
