I am planning on buying this muffler to replace my buell race muffler. I like the size, appearance and weight of the Jardine unit. Can I get some input from those of you who own this muffler, ie pros and cons? Thanks guys! | ||

Very light and it has a cool sound. Watch the rivets on it and be sure to check the packing every couple thousand miles. Mine pull apart after about 4,000 miles. Jardine will replace it, but I can't find my receipt and the guy I bought it from hasn't sent me a copy yet. | ||

No issues with mine with over 6k miles. Love the sound, has some decel popping, decals burnt off... | ||

i have one on my 9s. great sound, great weight savings, very affordable. a little tricky to install. i didnt follow the instructions to move the oil lines. came up with my own system. 3500 miles still going strong. probably ready for a repack. | ||

I have one on my 9S also. Love the throaty sound, and light weight. No cosmetic issues, have 5k miles on it. Probably needs a repack but can't tell. | ||

I clean mine with mothers polish. I might go drummer when I can afford one. | ||

Mine is aluminum and I just wash it along with the bike. I dont do any special polishing. The bottom of the can gets dirty from road grime which is the way it goes with under engine exhaust. It has lost some of its luster but still looks good. | ||

A couple things on the Jardine. 1.They also make several sizes of baffles to quiet it down for early/long trips. Not sure how they work, but they're out there. 2.You lose your center jacking points...if that matters to you. 3.My buddy ha his Jardine 12 tuned with a direct link, and made 94 rwhp I think. 4.I think they sound cool IMHO. I got a Alum. can cheap, to give it a try. I do like the performance and sound, but the install to retain the chin spoiler is a PIA. Also mine is constantly vibrating the front rivets loose. I think I will probably re-pack/re-rivet it and use it on my racebike (until I get a Micron), and go back to the race can on my street bike. | ||

I just installed the Jardine in aluminum yesterday - replacing a Force system that I had installed when the bike was new. I retained the Force headpipes. My Force muffler developed a crack for the second time, so I had had enough. I was impressed with the fit and finish on the Jardine and it seems well constructed. The install is a small project - I used a few tips from others to speed the install. I had to grind the front bracket a little to make it fit - but overall, it wasn't that bad. I didn't mind losing the jack points because I didn't have them with the Force. I really like the sound of the Jardine - it is quite a bit quieter than the Force - more exotic sounding. It does pop on decel, but not as loud as the Force. I had my bike tuned with a PCIII and the Force exhaust - however, it ran great after installing the Jardine and no further tuning. It is a very light pipe and if you leave the cowling brackets off (and cowling) you are really saving some weight. It looks better than my jet hot coated Force. I only have 1200 miles on the bike since it was new in 2003...so I am not worried about the packing wearing out. | ||

I have had a Jardine on for about 3000 miles and love it. Sound is killer. Kind of a pain in the ass to install, I left the front fairing or spoiler off of it. Kind of lets everyone see it better. Very light, no repacking issues yet. I will be hitting it up with mothers though, as the grime hits it pretty heavy.  | ||

Probably the oil lines on the bottom if you want to use the rear jardine support bracket. I just kept the stock half moon bracket and strapped it to that because I will probably be going to a drummer | ||

I like the Jardine. There are currently only 2 systems available that I would trade it for. Those are a)the micron. performance gains are not to be ignored. b) the race pipe being used on the RR. Big flow without obnoxious sound. It doesn't get any better that that. | ||

Does a muffler or exhaust pipe that says its good for a XB9R fit or work well with a XB12R? thanks | ||

depends on the pipe. the factory headers are different diameters and there is a valve in the 12 muffler. Aftermarket the mufflers are definitely mix and match. If you do not go to a race ecm however you will need an exhaust valve emulator. Al at American Sport Bike stocks them. | ||

(I posted part of this in another thread then saw this one) I would opt for the TI version due to issues with the alloy tearing. This is caused by the exhaust popping on de acceleration (basically mini explosions) that happen inside the can. The reason that this is an issue is because the end cap is on the inside of the can instead of outside where it should be (Micron did it the right way). The TI can is tougher and can handle more "abuse". There are other issues with the pipe also. The biggest issue is head bearing service. The bike has to be suspended and the handle bars need to free to move (so the stock jack point ,the muffler, was a great setup.) With a Jardine you have to remove the can and place a piece of wood or other flat firm object under the engine then jack it from there. Not a terrible issue but at least you know ahead of time. Peel the stickers off when new. If not then when the packing starts to blow out the heat will start melting the decals and they will be a pain in the ass to get off. This pipe is loud and gets louder as the packing blows out. If you get a chance get a listen before hand to make sure that it is not too much for you. Some guys are repacking the can with stainless steel packing and from what I have read it holds up very well but I have not been able to find it (if anyone knows where I can get the stainless packing please post up). With all of that said I love my TI Jardine and unless the Micron makes some serious power over the Jardine in the upcoming dyno shoot out I will stick with it. BTW I think that once both the Micron and the Jardine are tuned the difference will be minimal and I think the Micron will be a little better on the bottom end and they will be very close on the top. While speaking of power band I want to tell you that some people say that the Jardine is down on power in the lower RPM band but the truth is that it is in a band that you don't really use unless you ride around at 40 mph in fifth gear. IMO if you are an aggressive rider then you will really appreciate the Jardine. If you decide that you need to keep the stock jack point then I would suggest checking out Special Ops. I spoke with a dealer that had a Jardine on his XB9. He loved the sound around town, but it really got to him on the highway. If you want to be heard, then this is a good pipe for you. |
