I have the race kit installed on my '06 XB12R. But when the engine is warmed, I pull up to a light and let off the throttle, the engine has a fast idle and takes about 5 seconds for the engine to idle down.

Did the shop set the idle too high or is it a result of the race kit and they didn't reprogram the ECM?

Turn your idle down a little bit until it does'nt do any more. Mine idles around 1000 rpm

Well, when I start it up, it does idle fine. Actually kinda lugs along. Its when the engine is warm and I come to a stop.

If I turn it down, at start up would it stall?

1000 rpm is too low. 1050 is the low end of the reccommended range. If too low, engine will run hot.

Had the same problem when I had the buell pro race kit installed w/buell pro plugs. Picked it up from the dealer and started it up. Idled fine. Took it for a spin around the lot while the wife watched and gave her the thumbs up and headed back to the house some 20 miles away. I stopped at several lights and the engine idled at @2500-3000 rpms. I'm thinking now wtf and when I got home called the dealer who said bring it back. Brought it back and the dealer couldn't replicate the issue. Upon leaving now thinking the bike is normal, the engine goes haywire and revving like mad. Now I walk back into the serv. mgr. office and said listen to that. Wow! sounds like a rocket ship is out there. Now I'm thinking I made a huge mistake changing the parts out for stock and trusting the dealership. Anyway they claim they reset the tps and did nothing else, however I think it might have been a kinked throttle cable that got unstuck. Who knows but what a waste of time, effort and time again. Good luck!

Lower the idle. I know it's too low, but I run my idle at around 850 in the summer. It just sounds really cool that way... Sometimes it dies once when I'm letting it warm up, and I do have to turn it up to about 1000-1050 in the winter.

My 2003 XB9R service manual reads -

"Regular idle speed is 1050 +/-50 RPM/" (pg 1-43)

So according to the manual, 1000 - 1100 RPM would be in an acceptable range for a 03 XB9R
