Noface: Before you start on a rant, how many contact have you had with: Your dealer?: Enter number of contacts here Buell Customer Service?: Enter number of contacts here I don't mean to sound contrary, but you seem really bent out of shape and the appearance is that you'd have preferred Buell do nothing. It wa the appearence, it seems, of the "new and improved" that galled you. Statements, I contend, like: "Here I got this kewl looking NEW Buell with a rusting muffler." "Thanks Buell! I love my orange, rusting, race kit muffler... " "I suppose I'll have to find an aftermarket place to get it re-coated. " "By then I'll have invested nearly the price of the D&D unit." "Guess I shoulda waited. " Are, each and every one, "inciting" rather than "solving" statements. Not one of the statements accurately describes the problem or a possible solution set. If, you have had contacts, EVEN ONE, with your dealer or Buell, and are saying this in response to their lack of action or someone telling you "screw you, you were dumb enough to buy early", I'd be more apt to lend a sympathetic ear. If I check your V.I.N will I find a myriad of contact regarding this? I am simply curious to know, before you leveled all this playground talk what level of personal responsbility YOU have taken to find a solution. Have you talked to ANYONE about this except on the internet? Please don't misjudge me as trying to upset you....I've simply been driven to my threshold with people bashing Buell for doing what, in another context (constant ongoing product improvement each time a "better" is found without the government having to "force" them) would be seen as innovative, world class product line support. Frankly, we've become our worst enemies, I submit, in this e-venue, oscillating in a moment from damning for for not doing something to condemning them in the next minute for doing it. I think we've gone lightyears above and beyond in terms of hoping Buell will take innovatoive risks and err on the side of it's customers in the future. Firebolter, I have a Wileyco pipe on my X1. I like the product (appearance, price, sound, fit, durability (only 4 months/3K miles)). I recently emailed the co. regarding getting some gaskets and received this reply: Hello Frank, You should be ready for a packing kit and with your gaskets I will send a full rebuild kit. Just got the race kit put on my bike. The date on the box was 10/14/02 and there is a "Y" at the end so I guess I got the new muffler. The finish matches the frame and swingarm very well. I am really surprised with the sound. Much louder/deeper than the one I heard this past summer. (its a good thing!) Not sure I like how they installed the straps though. Just doesnt look right. Comments? I'll try to post a pic.  | ||

I think the clamps look fine. No one would know they weren't supposed to be like that. I considered doing the same thing to avoid idler pulley removal in the future (but didn't). If I ever have it off again I may do the same thing. | ||

Roy, Just my opinion, but I think it looks cleaner with the clamping part of the straps in the 12 o'clock position. However, as Eddie pointed out, you would need to remove your idler pully arm to put them back to that position. Timbo | ||

Court, I'll start off saying I didn't intend to get on a rant. Yea, I'm kinda bent, but I didn't think it was one of those Dennis Miller rants :-) No, I have not gone over this with my dealer nor Buell Customer Support. I bought the kit late August (it rusted like in the picture the first time I got caught in the rain), and admittedly, I've just been having too much fun riding this bike, working, and other things to travel the 50-60 miles or so, one way, to discuss this with the dealer. You hit the nail on the head with the "New and Improved" comment. It seems I remember reading here some time ago about someone else having the same problem with their race kit muffler. And now there apparently is a "new and improved" muffler with a different part number. I'm glad Buell is doing something about it. It shows they are listening to their customers and care about the products they sell. But what about those of us that got the crummy ones? My beef is that now I have to feel the pain of trying to get the dealer to replace the muffler I've got. I'm not going to bash my dealer. They might not be the best Buell Dealer in the country, but so far they have treated me very well. I should have persued this with the dealer before griping here. Regarding your comment on "inciting" rather than "solving" comments, You are absolutely correct, and I humbly apologize for firing off the comments that I wrote. Could I have expressed it better? You bet. Though I'm not an eloquent writer, next time I'll try to keep a lid on the sarcasm. I haven't felt for one minute that you were trying to misjudge or uspet me. You've made some good points, and as always, in good form. I can only imagine what my dealer is going to say. All they can do are two things. Happily replace the muffler, or feed me a line like "you used it" or "race parts aren't covered in warranty" or a host of others and give me a hard time. But we won't know that until I call them. What's with the doubled-pipes on the exhaust outlets? Looks like someone could open up the exhaust and remove the inner pipe. Is the outer pipe a cosmetic cover? | ||

Has anyone seen dyno results of the Latus muffler? I also hear that Force is developing one for the XB9s but I have yet to find any info. Thanks, Keith | ||

Actually, there are 10 Latus pipes on Ebay; being sold by Latus themselves. What's wrong with the dual tip? It makes for right/left symmetry - I think it looked pretty good. Both exits are wide open into the core chamber of the muffler. If they could quiet it down to about 90db, we'd have a sure winner. | ||

Hey Ya'll, Just an update on the my Firebolt's rusty race kit muffler. Buell and my local dealer happily replaced my funky rusty muffler, and displayed a genuine concern to make it right. I installed it today and it looks sooo much better. The coating on this new muffler is far superior to the previous unit. It appears more durable, and matches the color of the frame better. I can confirm that the part number has changed as well, as there is a "y" at the end now. Much kudos to Buell and my dealer for takin care of business and customer enthusiasm. Damn I love this bike! To keep peoples heads from dinging up your muffler as you ride over them on the sidewalk! Dave, Brian (Nallin) tells me he has the same picture, now I just have to get him to e-mail me with it so I can post it. Things are still pre-production with it though, so I don't know how much Force wants it shown around just yet. I can tell you the whispers about how much power this thing is making are impressive. You will have to run a PC3 with it, but the gains it's looking to make will be well worth the effort. We're going to be looking at how we need to tweak this street version for the HCB/NR XB12S. Obviously the increased displacement is going to require even more flow. I'll keep everyone posted with what I know.
