Bob,

Subframe looks good in its new home. Hope the transformation goes smoothly. Post some pics when the bike's done... paint scheme sounds great.

ok so if the front of the bike is a lighting, and the rear is a firebolt you get a lightingbolt. so what if the front is a firebolt and the rear is a lighting what do you call it?

Yeags,

Great progress. I wanna eventually do the same to my Buell but I have 0 mechanical skills. Oh, why couldn't I have payed attention to my mechanic father? Alas, there's always one of those "custom" builders lurking in my future, waiting to ruin my bike.

Buellmonkey, you can pull of the tail swap when going from the S to the R. You will need to lengthen some wires, but it is probably a little better of a job than going the other direction. Going from less room to more in the seat pan is always a little easier.

Once you get the subframe you'll have everything you need to attach your seat. It is a hook similar to the S model and two bolts in to the subframe. If I remeber correctly the battery straps on to the subframe too. There is no "belly pan" to speak of. Just the subframe, outer plastics, undertail and the seats. You can use a stock undertail or pic one up from Al at American Sport Bike. The Ermax is the best looking unit, and Al rewires them and checks for quality control before he ever sends them out.

Bob, you got all the hardware that I originally received, which means the (4) bolts for subframe, plus (6) bolts for attachment of the undertail. When I bought the new seat it came with nada for hardware.

The battery should sit right in the subframe section with hold-down strap I looped around the cross member.

Maybe someone with XBR manual could send you specifics about the bodywork and seat hardware? I planned to buy an XBR manual if I'd decided to proceed with the XBR tail transformation, considering how much I've learned from my XBS manual.

That XBR tail looks great on your bike... maybe I shouldn't have sold it! Good luck with project!

Snow there, rain here. Spring's taking its sweet time! Reminds me, I've got some XB project work myself, including getting that battery back on charger and placing Drummer order.

You could always look for the plastics on ebay, and I've got a stock undertail that I'll sell to you for less than the going ebay rate. It's just sitting in my basement collecting dust. I have the tail light, blinkers, but I had to use my license plate mount on my Ermax. Send me an offer over PMs and we'll talk about it.
