One more interesting device, the jacket is tethered to the bike via a string. If you fall off, the jacket is instantly inflated by some CO2 cartridge. Same theme, but this time the air bag is attached to you. Interesting...

Dare I bring up the obvious Dolly Parton references?

All silliness aside, I don't really see those as bad ideas. Not something I'd really see myself using but I'd be really interested to see how they'd work after a few years on the road, getting some statistics outside the testing laboratories.

the life jacket is an old idea, i think it might be effective, so I'm not laughin';)

the airbag you posted would be only effective during frontal impacts, so it's largely useless.
It becomes useful while wearing the life vest (that works just when you are pulled off the bike)...so somehow they are complementary.

the only thing against the life jacket is accidental inflation when in hurry you come off the bike missing to detach the activation cable...

I would be afraid of bouncing down the road like a bouncy ball!

Don't laugh too hard. The safety nazis will reason that because one bike has one, they ALL should have one. Hide and watch.

Why not? In Japan and Europe they're starting to use pedestrian airbags. No joke.

I have a bid in on EBAY for the avalanche dinner jacket featured in James bond. Just gonna wear it everywhere. Any trouble? Poof! I am closed up inside a big rubber sphere.

Not sure about the "Bond Girl" accessory yet. The bidding is getting a little stiff and I hear she has maintenance issues.........

Because the cost of developing and installing airbags on motorcycles will be reflected in the price.

Its purpose it to lower the amount of kinetic energy a rider will have when he/she dismounts from the motorcycle in a frontal collision. Anything else and it may be a hazard or have very little effect at all. Care to try it out for us?
