No, this is not a joke. I was taking off my bars on my 2005 XB12R and had everything off until it came time to remove the ignition/key switch. There are two bolts on the bottom that look like Torx but they have a center that comes up. What kind are these and how can I get them, cause without them, I can't get the new bars on.

HELP!

they are security torx, you need a torx bit with a whole up the middle to allow for pin. you should be able to pick one up at sears or i know a snap-on guy will deffently have one.

They are called Torx Button Head Screws. Tools and info available here:

Anyone know what size? I don't want to have to buy a whole set if possible.

Thanks

Snap On makes a 3/8 drive socket set with these tamper resistant torx. The size you need is a 45, and the Snappy p/n is FTXR45E the (R) is for the tamper resistant type. There is a hole in the center of the bit. No real need to get the hole set. IMO the FTXR's are weaker than the standard torx sockets and bits...

of course, if you don't feel like buying a tamper-proof bit you can always use a set of needle nose vice grips- sorry don't mean to advertise for them: ) they ought to work though. i replaced mine a standard allen screw during reassembly. i've never run across another item that i'd need the torx bit for.

I drilled mine out on a press. Saved a couple bucks, but you have to remove the triple t's. Guess you could probably do it by hand, too, but I didn't want to chance it.
