So this happened on my previous buell but I just thought my brake pads were worn out. I rode my new bike with 500 miles on it and my pants were spattered in brake dust. Any one know a way to minimize the mess or should I just switch my wardrobe to black pants? Erik | ||

the brand and compound of your brake pads makes a big difference in how much of a mess they make. I do not know which would be better about this though, I buy brakes based on stopping power and feel. silly huh? | ||

Never had that problem before... Are you sure it's brake dust? One of my previous Hondas, I had a bad fork seal that would spatter my pant legs. Took me a few rides before I figured it out.  | ||

I noticed that last year too, but it only happened a couple times. I don't think it is brake dust, I think it was an oil spot on the road, or maybe a cage that you were behind. THe only way brake DUST will splatter is if it mixed with moisture, otherwise i think it would just blow away. | ||

I have found myself covered in a mixture of A/C and road grime/oil on warm days. (none lately) As the A/C water drips off cars it gets kicked into the air along with all the oil and dirt it can hold. I was wearing a white long sleeve t-shirt and it was perfectly covered in a fine speck. | ||

its true, my bike does the same thing with the front brake. it's got to be, it's only on my right leg from the knee down.. little black speckles every time i wear white pants | ||

yeah it is only on my right leg (where the brake is) and I thought it was a leak at first or road grime but it is always there no matter weather/road conditions. I'm sure it is brake dust look at your front wheel and how messy it gets. I've given up and started wearing darker pants to work...it's the price you pay to look so cool on your way to where you are going. The next issue how to not smell like cold sweat before you walk into that 9:00 staff meeting.  Erik | ||

Cant believe you guys would even consider going on a ride without wearing even the most basic of protection i.e. leathers or fabric eqivalent. The thought of slidin' down the road wearing 'khakis'  ...leather you can replace...skin and bone...well thats an altogether more difficult proposition. | ||

I agree Exup, I couple of years ago I rode from SanFrancisco to DC, in 10 days on the road I never saw a single rider wearing leathers and I saw numerous guys riding in shorts and tee shirts and they thought I was crazy in full leathers.......our US brothers are obviously made of sterner stuff than us on this side of the Pond. Back to the subject, I've had similar problem in the past and the source of the dirt (on my leathers) was a defective fork seal, I'd start by checking that out.
