Hi All,

I want more power!!!! The xb9r is running a little short IMHO and I need more oomph. I do not want to spend the money for a big bore kit so figure the pipe, ECM and airbox mods are going to have to do. My concern being here in SoCal is noise. We run the Crest alot and I do not want the same type of experience I used to have on my Piped Hondas. What experience you ask? Three times I have been stopped and ticketed because the cop heard me coming. I like stealth but have to do something about power. Any suggestions?

Thanks

I'm in the same boat. I want a better sound, and a bit more power, but I don't want much more volume.

It's about being a good citizen. I know I don't like people driving down the road near my house blasting loud stereos, revving their loud exhausts, or making other noise that intrudes my home. Especially when it wakes up my sleeping child (the parents among us all know how precious bedtime is. LOL!).

I've got a Ducati with Staintunes on it, and it's WAY too loud. I bought the bike that way, and from what I've read, they are among the quieter options for aftermarket exhaust. They still require that I coast out of my neighborhood early in the morning.

I believe Kevin builds a "quiet" Drummer. It'd be worth dropping him a message or giving him a call and asking.

The race can on my 12 was pretty quiet, but for less money and much more HP/torque give Kevin a call!

Thanks guys, Any SoCal folks got a drummer I can listen to?

Daves I would like you to get off your ass and open a shop in L.A. (saw that post about "several bikes to listen to".

There is a plug available for the Jardine to make it quiet. It isn't one of the louder pipes to begin with, so I'm sure it is pretty stealthy with the quiet module and it is the cheapest pipe on the market by far. I think I got mine for about $235, but I don't have the quiet module in it.

I have had the stock muffler, the Buell Race Can, and now I have the regular Drummer with fatlet.

My observations:
1. Stock sucks.
2. Race can is much better, (especially with ECM and K+N), and not so loud that it attracts unwanted attention.
3. Drummer has a bit deeper sound, very nice, not too loud either, my friends who ride with me say it sounds about the same as the race can, (not that they ever paid that much attention). Remember, none of these are straight pipes, they are all "mufflers" to one extent or another.
The thing is, the Drummer is more of a torque pipe than the race can, much nicer in the twisties.

Conclusion: send Kevin your pipe, order a Drummer. You might get arrested for speeding, but not for being too loud.

Kevin does make a quiet drummer which has an extra chamber to help dampen the sound (IIRC) - but not the performance.

If you want it quiet, then give Kevin a call.

If you want more power you are going to have to give somewhere- I can tell you this dont buy a jardine if you you want quiet, even with the silencer plug its pretty loud.

I'd have to agree that the race can isn't too loud...But once you get a little throttle happy, you could easily have the laws attention if they're anywhere nearby... I haven't heard the quiet drummer in person, but I'd bet that's your best pipe for the money with this noise requirement in mind.
