Hey guys im new to here and the buell world. I have a quick question, how much louder is the race exhaust from buell ,10, 20, 30 %. I live in a condominium and im a little hesitant about blasting my neighbors out of bed at 5:30 every morning.

considering you cant really hear the stock one, it is quite a bit louder, but like the above said, as long as you putt it out to the street, should be ok. if it is that much of a concern, i would try to hear one first. i think it is easily twice as loud if not more, but i think it is whisper quiet stock, so my opinion will be different.

DO IT!!! I live in an Apartment complex and my parking space is right next to a couple of apartment windows. When you rev that throttle, its like the sound of a DI yelling "GET UP GET UP!!" oh so early in the morning. This reminds me of a quick story: Before christmas, some lady saw me tucking my bike in for the night (covering it), turns out its the one whos apt window is next to my spot. She said "oh every morning you wake me and my kids up when you leave...But then again this is a parking lot" I replied,"yea sorry about that...but wait until after christmas when I get a louder pipe."
IMO dont take into consideration your neighbors too much when considering something you really want because from experience they will be nice, kiss your ass and then one day out of nowhere file a complaint with the onsite authority (manager)... SO DO WHAT YOU WANT TO DO.

I always take it easy in my neighborhood because I believe "You shouldn't sh*t where you live".

i have a D&D on mine, and i roll mine out and down the street before i start it, i also live in an apartment, and it is easy for me to do, so i only do this on sundays because i leave at 5 in the morning, but i know that if someone was warming their loud a$$ bike up out side my window that early every morning, he would have a flat tire, i show my neighbors respect, i expect the same
like he said," dont sh*t where you eat!"

Hmm, just my .02 Your gonna pay 200 plus for something for you not your neighbors. Guess my previous post does sound a bit over the edge...the point I was trying to convey is not to purposely rev your throttle to be a loud nuisance, but to wait a minute for the engine to warm up and get them gears turning. All Im saying is do what you want to do...BTW slashing someones tire is a form of disrespect, and the mere act of considering it is uncivilized. If your really concerned TALK to your neighbors first but again its not like your asking to raise your roof 2 feet, or get married.

I have had the Jardine and now the Buell Race Pipe, I think the Buell pipe is way quieter than the Jardine. I am thinking a
Drummer SS or D&D soon. I will probably be putting the Buell Race pipe on the block. It sounds good, but I have been itching to try the others. I think if you want a pipe that sounds good but not too loud, the Buell pipe is the way to go.

i have heard the buell race pipe and my d&d next to each other, the d&d is louder and deeper, but the buell race pipe sounds pretty good IMO, it is not as obnoxious, it sounds very clean. and it sounds pretty loud untill you hear something louder. i dont think you would be disapointed at all. the idle on it is alot quieter than the d&d, but when you get on it, it is impressive.
but it is hard to really pick one, i mean that is alot of money to spend on something you dont know how it sounds, my pipe was 600 or so and then another 200 for the ecm and them a few bucks for the extra clamp. i would have been pretty mad if it sounded like sh#t when i first started it up. sound clips dont really help much, you have to hear them in person.

Pupu is right. The Buell pipe does have a louder sound when off idle or getting on it. It has a nice crisp sound at idle to. I also cringe sometimes at the thought of spending the money and not knowing how it sounds. We all like different things. I like something loud, but others might want something quiet. I have been so close to pulling the trigger on a D&D but never come through on it. The new Drummer SS looks fly to and I bet it sounds awesome. So many choices and they are good ones to. The Drummer must be good because look at all the positive feedback about it. It is also handcrafted by a guy that loves what he does. That would make it a joy to own. I will probably do something different soon. I like my Buell pipe, but I am ready for something different.

I don't know if it's a consideration for you, but it was for me.

I wanted to retain the jacking function of the stock pipe. I have a Craftsman jack and it's nice to be able to lift the bike for tire changes or fork/steering head work.

I don't want a loud exhaust, and I wasn't so concerned with maximum power as I'm happy with the bike in stock tune. The Race Kit is a bargain at $650, which includes the pipe, a new computer, and what looks like a K&N filter. The race muffler retains the stock jacking points.

I'm not saying it's the best option, just the choice I made.

If I wake up my daughter, it will be my wife baking my a$$ because she has to deal with a crying baby while I'm out riding.

The fastest way to get more legislation passed against us "bikers" is to be inconsiderate of our non-riding neighbors.

Here's just one example:

http://www.mrf.org/articles/1998/chicago.html

There are others. Several homeowners associations and apartment complexes now prohibit motorcycles requiring owners to either store their bikes elsewhere, or move.

It's all fun and games until we all get punished for a few inconsiderate folks who don't have any respect for others.

Got my race kit installed last night. The race exhaust is pretty loud. Much more so than the stock. But it makes the bike run SO much better (well, specifically, the new ECU is the reason for most of that).

Is the gas mileage much better with the race kit?

MPG would decline with race kit since air/fuel mixture is richer and the bike produces more power up high. Am assuming you'd use the more power up high once in a while. : D
