It's 37 degrees out, but I finally got the bike together today and took it out for a 2 mile shakedown - what a blast! I cracked it wide open in 3rd from 4k and could feel the front end gettin light, if I had stayed on it or intended to I could have carried a long low wheelie, and it never had that kind of oomph stock.

Header wrap is stinkin up the place, but man what a sound! To me it does not sound like a bike I have heard before. I had an 883 with straight pipes years ago, and its not like that, I had a VTR1000 with Wolf Racing underseat exhaust that was loud but different than this also. Those sounded like motorcycles, whereas this one sounds to me like a built V8 muscle car. I love it!

Got tuned ECM w/American Sport Bike airbox kit from Al at American Sport Bike. Lyndalls go on next - Thanks Al!

I must be high - it doesn't wheelie in third. Maybe in second, and definitely in 1st! Lofting the wheel used to effort though, and now I can loft it at will it seems -

Now you understand why we were so pumped when my "ULY" hit 100 RWHP and the XB9 hit 91 with only a Micron and American Sport Bike Open AirBox Kit.

BTW we measured the noise level at 94 db at 30 ft and 98 db at 20 ft and yet it sounds so good. ... Terry

Jonathan,
I hope you get a nice break in the weather to go out and rock on it. Peak power is great, but the combination of the mid range punch and the rich deep throaty sound is better. I get a warm fuzzy feelings from riding a bike that I know is being fueled properly.

The Micron is a great sounding pipe, a bit bassier than most, aggressive but not grossly loud. Doug tells me that it does not have any packing to saturate or blow out, so there's no reason to believe that the way it sounds now won't be the way it sounds for it's life on the bike. I think they've hit a home run with it.

Micron has come a long way, I remember about 9 or 10 years ago my buddy had a micron on his honda f2 the pipe sounded like crap and fell apart. But now there products look top notch- and sound great!

I looked at a bunch of slip-ons for sportbikes at the Indy show last weekend. The way Micron builds their slip-on is better than the way most build them. Most of your oval canisters use an oval metal tube that is riveted (or screwed) OVER the formed or machined end caps. Micron does it the other way, the end cap wraps around the oval metal tube. This is a better way. As the packing begins to go on your basic oval, the expansion stresses in the oval tube are resolved at the rivets, and tear-out or loosening of the rivets is common. The Buell Ti-force can is built this way, and Terry has had a few blow their end caps off and the oval shell ruptures. The Micron way is easier to get into the can, and the end cap retained by a single removable screw access from the exhaust port.

The Micron for the Buell doesn't use riveted-on end caps at all. The caps are seam crimped onto both ends of the can. It looks very durable and strong. Of course, with that type construction you can't get inside the pipe, but with no packing to blow out, there is no reason to.

Yeah, I also got my Micron / open airbox / tuned ECM installed on my XR12R earlier this evening. Rode it about 15 miles and called it a day, but the initial impression is a big fat flat powerband with no drop off points. Great service Al as usual, and a very nice tune that Terry polished up on.
