Is installing a Race ECM as easy as disconnecting the battery, unbolting and unplugging the Stock ECM, and plugging in the new Race ECM? If this is the case and an owner installs it himself, does it bring up warranty/ extended warranty issues? |

Yes it's easy, but you will need to zero the TPS afterwords. ... Terry |

So basically, you could do it yourself, but then have to take it back in to the dealer the have the TPS adjusted? |

I swapped mine in 5 minutes in the dealer parking lot. I had them zero my TPS, another 10 minute job. I was rolling down the road less than 1/2 hour later. |

The thing is, it may not run at all with the new ECM in. Some bikes run well, some not so hot, some like mine, wouldn't run at all. In all cases, however, the TPS should be reset by the dealer, or someone who has the proper software, ( very few people have it. I believe it is available from Technoresearch through several of our sponsors). That's why guys ride to the dealers, then do the swap in the parking lot. Shouldn't be any warranty issues, but it is always a good idea to check with the dealer who will be doing the warranty work first. (Message edited by gentleman_jon on February 22, 2006) |

swapped mine in the parking lot too, very fast install. i took the bolts out in the garage at home so all i had to do was unplug/plug/reset TPS at the dealer. then bolted back down in the garage. check around in there too when you have it out, i found the main wire cluster was chaffed, dealer re-shrink wrapped before TPS reset. dealer didn't say a word about warranty and my self-install. |

Not sure about the warranty stuff. I called ahead and the local deal said 1/2 labor, installed and resetting the TPS. It took a long time, couple of hours. They had computer issues, but still only charged me for the 1/2 hour and did the install as well. They also pointed out some issues that I'm going to have to have looked at. The kickstand switch is faulty and doesn't cut out apparently. They also noted that there was a throttle cable close to the top of the motor that showed signs of the plastic cover melting. I have not had time to take off the airbox and look closer at it...but in anycase it was a positive experience...and not too expensive. |

4 minutes to swap. two different XB12's ran just fine with side of the road race ecm installation. TPS reset is recommended soon after, but in my (2) examples, the bikes ran for over a hundred miles prior to reset. |

If you're worried about warranty, check with your dealer BEFORE making changes. If you swap out to a Race ECM - remember, you can re-install the original anytime since it "remembers" the TPS setting. Something to consider. |
