Who's using micro indicators like Kellerman or equivalant? Led or normal bulbs? How are they by comparson in brightness and visibility to stock? I'd like to go to smaller indicators for looks, but don't want to compromise visibity too much. Has anyone run into problems with DOT regulations?

Also while were on the subject of lights, I should mention that I tried an LED 1157 bulb from autozone and it actually put out less light than the stock bulb( I checked it with a light meter).

thanks -Jeff

Yeags30: Those 1156 LED's you got off of Ebay, How many LED's were in the bulb. I see a ton of different Tale light and marker bulbs to choose from but not sure what works best......

I have Kellermans and they are the regular type. The LED's are not that much brighter then these. I was very surprised in how much light these things produce.

I have kellermans, there a good choice. They have very small halogen bulbs fitted and are vey bright. Because of the different resistance, you will have to fit another flasher unit or wire 2ohm 17 watt resistors in parallel with each indicator to slow down the flash rate.

The LED Kellermans are slightly brighter than the Halogens, but they do seem a little pricey for the difference. LEDs do turn on and off instantly, where incandescent lamps don't. But it sure seems to me that the halogen Kellermans turn on faster than the larger bulb incandescents. I can't measure it, maybe it isn't true, but sure seems like it.
They definitely aren't DOT legal due to DOT size regulations, and I think there is a separation requirement as well that they don't meet on the front. But visibility is NOT the issue. I'd bet that at 25 yards, the Kellermans are brighter than the stock ones, regardless of size.

Either the halogens or the LEDs will consume far less current than the stockers and either the flasher will need to be replaced or a load equalizer added. I think load equalizers are a silly solution now that we have a good flasher that handles a wide current range without freaking out. check out "shock racing" turn signals (parts unlimited i think) some models ARE brighter than others- i bought 2 diff. ones . one pair resembles the kellermans but they were not as brite as the 2nd pair (12leds vs.18leds).i think the trick is that some signal lenses have the EU-?(EURO -DOT equiv. i think) NUMBERS embossed on the lense.the lenses w/o the numbers are not as bright. and then see al at American Sport Bike. for electronic flasher.

You can also do a search for Halogen 1157's a little cheaper than good LEDs. You may have to drill a few very small vent holes in the housing (halogens run a little hotter). All in all the halogen lights are bright. I wanted to put 1157 LEDs, but I hear mixed reviews. The Halogen 1157's ARE brighter than stock, they are a sure shot.
