Having to buy a new tire because of a nail/sharp is expensive. A flat is also potentially deadly. One summer, I had to buy three (3)tires because no one will hot patch due to liabilities. There is a product XXX (don't know if I can mention name) that claims to extend tire life and seal punctures. It also is not supposed to corrode or hurt the rims. Anyone know anything about it? thanks | ||

I've never had a problem patching nail holes with the simple plugs that you insert from the outside and trim off. Never had one fail, never had one leak. YMMV. | ||

I too have used the plugs in my tire. It came back out about a week later. I was on the interstate doing 75MPH about two car lengths if front of a tractor trailer doing 78MPH. I don't recommend the plug. I have no experience with the sealer stuff. Was the plug installed properly? No. It was installed in a motorcycle tire and that is wrong. I have put numerous plugs in auto tires with no problems. | ||

I can see using emergancy sealent to get you to a place for repair (or home.) As for patching or plugging holes on M/C tires. That's a hot topic because for some it's a big safety issue being we only have 2 tires vs. 4. I doubt you'll find a shop that will patch or plug a tire. If you know how, you can do it yourself. I personally would recommend a plug + patch combo for the best, safest, fix. | ||

I have used "Ride On" tire sealant. Rated for very high speeds, and I believe it did save me one time. The air still escaped from my tire, but rather slowly, considering the size of the hole. No balance issues, but make sure you let your mechanic know about the gunk in your tires before you have them put new ones on. Nobody likes to get a faceful of the stuff. |
