remember, in life, there will always be another deal.You will see this many times, before you finally learn. It may take passing up this opportunity to learn, but you will learn... there is always another deal.}

Pwnzor you have a point but if you over extend yourself so far that you can not afford to pay for essential things such as gas, insurance, fun money then how are you going to live life being broke. If you cannot afford the payments plus the cost of insurance then you cannot afford to have that kind of fun.

What fun is it to have a bike and not be able to legally ride it. You also have to take in to consideration the tax and title for the bike, there are all kinds of little expenses to our hobby not just the price of the bike.

I couldn't wait to move out of my parents house when I was 18 so I could buy my first bike (they wouldn't let me own one). It was only a Suzuki GS400 but I loved it and had a blast on it. I owned several old japanese bikes that were all fun but not what I really wanted...a sport bike. I was so much sweeter when I finally bought my XB9R 2 years ago after waiting for years to own my first brand new sport bike not to mention the fact that I could actually afford it by then. Something to think about.

First off thanks everyone for all of the advice. I didnt go too far into detail in my frist post, so let me elaborate a little.

I have had my Pro MX lisence for a few years now. I have 14 years competetive mx experience under my belt.

I CAN afford it. I go to school full time and work 50 hrs a week. I go to work at 5 AM and stay usually until 6 or 7. I work my butt off and I want to ride something nice to show for it. I just got my truck paid off, it was only 100 bucks a month.

The reason that I don't want to save is VERY simple: I work 40 min from my house and drive a 4wd pickup. I SPENT 650$ IN GASOLINE LAST MONTH. So as soon as I get on this bike, I will have more than enough money to pay for it! Also i have already got the gear, helmet, jacket, boots ect.

BTW, I was definatly in the market for the xb9r, but that 12 happened to fall into my lap.

That does change my opinion some. You sound like a very capable hard working kid and that is great...hats off to you going to school and holding down a job. If money is not really the issue since you make plenty I suggest having a sit down with the parents. But no matter what happens I recommend full coverage on your bike. You don't want to be hung out to dry with nothing but a pile of scrap to show for your hard work. Also as many here has stated...another deal, probably even better will come along. It could be the perfect 9 that you were looking for and your insurance problems may be resolved. You seem to be intelligent especially since you found your way here for some impartial insight on the matter. In any case good luck with your decision and ride safe.

Take your time and look around. You might want to talk to DaveS at Appleton about a good deal on a 9r.
Remember that 12 is not the only deal you'll ever find. Do not get emotionally attatched to a particular
bike before the deal is closed. Look around. It is a buyers market right now.

What Josh and Jon said; while not a Buell, the SV is a great little bike; crashes really well, gets great gas mileage and you can pick one up for relatively cheap. It'd leave you plenty of spending $$ for gear and gas.

And when you are ready for a Buell, you'll be able to sell a used SV in a year for not much less than what you paid for it.

Sell off things ya don't need or won't be needing much use out of. I sold off my 4 wheeling rig and my dirt bikes cuz I got into street bikes back in high school. I rode the snot outa my old Yamaha, and saved cash because it was cheap to buy and cheap to maintain. Then I stuffed everything into my savings account for the bike I realy want.

I Was going to buy brand new this year but managed to look around and found me a kited 05 12R with only 2700 miles on it for $7500... That bike after all the extra crap ya have to pay such as taxes and licence and a 550 mile round trip to get it,,,saved me $4500 over the dealers price.. deals are out there and I found one..

I even know I made the rite choices and sacrifices in buying my buell from the looks at speeders passing me on the freeway who suddenly slowed down to ogle my baby last Sunday as I trailered her home... Not to mention the big grin it gave me as I put the new licence plate on and gave her a good work out on the back roads today.

I have to say though,,If their is one thing a guy who wants a new bike should do,, it's not worry bout parents, Just get the bike before ya get married. My wife still hasn't cooled down yet.. wives who will say yes to buying a new bike with no problem are hard to find... They can and will even be worse than dealing with parents.

But check your insurance too. your premiums may screw ya on the fuel cost ya would be saving... Just make sure ya are covered if ya ride the road with a new bike ya payed alot for and sacrificed other things for..

Floridaharescrambler - Hey, I live Naples and took a few classes a FGCU myself. I went to Peterson's in Miami to buy my Buell in '02. They treated me with a better deal than Naples HD or Ft. Myers HD (I got my '02 X1W for $7500 new) I strongly suggest checking them out.

Well, I was pulling into the dealer today to pick up a new SV. As I was turning left into the lot, a car barreling down the side of the road to get up to the turn lane t-boned me. No one was hurt, but her car was pretty nasty, including some dunlop 4wd backawards letters and some "lock, unluck" 4wd hubs as well etched into her hood.

All this just after my GF of over a year rear ended a jeep at about 60 mph last saturday ( also no one hurt). Needless to say I have decided to take a little more time thinking about getting a bike. If I were on a bike in either 4 of those positions, i would have been in ICU right now. Maybe I will stick with the pickup for now.

hang around here in the mean time if you feel like it, or check back in when you get ready to buy.
I wish you the best of luck in all things, but especially in dealing with the insurance companies!

Not to sound mean or anything but how can you have a pro MX licence and be afraid of the what could happen. Yes we all know that accidents can and do happen but as long as you ride careful and keep a close watch on everyone around you the odds are lowered a little.

I wouldn't let this scare you away from a motorcycle, just let it be a reminder of why we all need to be careful and ALWAYS ride as if no one sees us.

Glad to hear you are ok. What ever you decide to do is ok just think things over for a few weeks.

Speaking of insurance, my office got tagged by a killer hail storm last week. I happened to be in a rental car instead of on the bike, but I carry $0 deductable on comprehensive while most of my co-workers carry $500-$1000 deductables and some carry no comp at all.

My little extra each month more than paid for itself in 10 minutes.

and yeah if I would have opted for Enterprise $10/day coverage I would have been in the clear also

FloridaHareScrambler - I hate to do this, but it sounds to me like you turned in front of someone. Perhaps she was speeding, and perhaps she was driving on the shoulder. Those are things that the insurance company may car about, but as a street rider, it would have been your ass in the grass (or on the side of the road) instead of some dents in your truck. It sounds like you may need a few more "total awareness" lessons before you are ready to move from the dirt to the street.
