Picked up these brand new Pro-Taper bars cheap at the dealership that I work for. They are 7/8" bars (obviously) made for the Yamaha Mini bikes. They are very close to the dimensions of the stock bars, just maybe 5mm shorter, and 10-15mm less pull back. They are made out of aluminum and are significantly lighter than the stockers. They also make them in a variety of colors. I decided to leave the crossbar on, minus the pad just for looks.

I like the feel of them. Being a just a tad shorter and having just a marginal amount less sweep makes the bike feel a little sportier and gives it a good look.

Seat of the pants says wheelies are easier now with less wieght up there.

What do you think? I know the pictures suck. When there isn't an ice-storm out, I'll get some better ones.

I just ordered a set of Pro-Taper Schoolboy Low bars for my XB9SX. The are like yours, almost identical to stock dimensions but slightly less pull back. I should get them installed next week. I got black as well. Your bars look great!

Do you normally keep your bike in the front room?

Cygnus, He has his priorities right. That way he can watch faster from the saddle of his bike.

I live in an apartment so I have to keep the bike inside for the most part.

3 months ago, somebody decided that they wanted my RC-51 and GSX-R1000 more than I did and stole them from me.

I received less than half of what the GSX-R was worth and the RC-51 did not have insurance on it. Bummer.

I live in a nice quiet neighborhood. Mostly retired people. 3 cops within a couple blocks. Lots of street lights. The only time I ever hear a siren is one of the elderly people has a heart attack. But on Sept. 15 of last year, I got up to go to work and my DRZ-400S(M) was gone. It was not in the garage, I don't have a garage. It was not log chained to a tree. (Honestly, how many of you do that?) I answer these questions because they are the ones everyone asks. The police never found the bike, in fact they never looked for it.

Apparently, there are thieves roaming around looking for low crime areas with motorcycles and 4 wheelers left outside. They pull up in the night while the nice people are sleeping, push the bikes into their truck/van and drive away. I have a Rottweiller that was sleeping 6 feet from the bike and she never barked. Normally she barks at everyone so the thief must have tossed her some raw meat or something while he worked. My point is, it can happen anywhere. Thieves like low crime areas. Cops are not cruising around low crime neighborhoods and everyone has a (false) sense of security. When my neighbors found out about the theft they said "Oh, maybe we should start locking our doors."

There still isn't room for a garage at my house, but I built a building big enough to lock up my Buell when I bought it or I would be parking the bike in the living room.

I just got my bike (as a matter of fact haven't even ridden it yet) but I really like the look of those bars and the fact that they are lighter. Where can you get them? What is the part number? How much do they normally run? Thanks.

Acesti, you can get them from any import shop that sells dirtbikes. I ordered them out of the dirt-bike distributor catalog. They will cost around $60. They are the Pro-Taper SE (seven eights) bars in Jet Black for Yamaha Mini Bikes.

Junkie,

My '95 S2 was stolen from my carport at an apartment in Tucson, AZ while it was chained to my Harley FXWG and Honda CB750. The Buell had a disc lock on the rear disc.
They cut the chain, and must have picked it up or drug it into a trailer and hauled it away.

The bike was found one week later. There were 5 bikes in the trailer, a kawasaki, a honda, my bike, a ducati, and something else I couldn't make out all the way in the front.

The whole thing was so traumatic for me, I now have alarms on ALL my bikes, keep them ALL chained together with a 3/8" logging chain, and keep them parked right outside of my patio. (I still live in an apartment)
