I want to install a Powerlet socket for my new 2004 XB12S that is being put together at my local dealer, so I can run a heated vest. Anyone here done this? Which kit did you get? I also want to get a power wire for my Garmin GPS, and my radar Escort Passport 8500. Any suggestions? Have pics of radar or GPS mounted on your XB? http://www.powerletproducts.com/products/kits.php Auxilliary running lights too... Anyone have Moto-lights? How'd you mount them? Can I do the fender mount? Other suggestions for extra light up front? How about Hyperlites in rear? One headlight up front and no flashers in rear means these Cleveland drivers don't see me as well, and I've had some close calls before installing them on every motorcycle I've owned. Here's what I did for AUX power. They are Gerbing's battery harnesses. They cost about $10.00 and are included in each piece of heated gear you buy from them. The forward one I run into the tank back and has a female cigarette outlet. I the split it and run the radar detector and GPS from there. I looked at the "STANDARD POWERLET SOCKET" but felt like they were too deep to mount in the airbox cover and not have interferences underneath with the inner airbox or frame. It would help to take a close look at a City X with it's clear cover to see if there is some place to fit one in with clearance on the back side. Thanks for the pic! I found all the cables I need today. I will go with a ten buck "Escort Direct Wire" for my Passport 8500, and a direct wire for my GPS as well. I'm going to use this powerlet outlet, as it can be entirely hidden under my seat. i use 1/4 inch phone plugs on all my vests and battery chargers, inexpensive, readily available, and they work well. | ||

I have 3 powerlet outlets on my FJR (one direct in the dash, one via relay near the passenger pegs for the wife's vest, one near pass. pegs via HeatTroller in the dash and relay for my electric vest). That said I would not put one one a Buell - not really enough room. Just use the battery pigtail the vest/whatever came with and install iike the pics above. Hide under the seat in the summer. | ||

Thanks, all. And, Josh, my thoughts exactly on hiding the plug under the seat when not in use. I don't want to mess up the tough look of this motorcycle. 3 outlets on my FJR as well, two near my seat, and one in dash. I'm going to be sad to see the FJR go, looks like it will sell next week. My buyer will get a very good deal. Have you found your XB9 track bike yet, Mr. Shadowfax? Good luck. '03 XB9's are goin' CHEAP. | ||
