I just purchased a new Shark RSR2 Foggy Legend which is f'n awesome but I'm unsure if I ordered the correct size. I have been wearing an Arai Quantum/f for the last several years and it is a size large. It fits snug enough but I don't feel like I'm going to rip my ears off nor does it cause me headaches. When I measured my head per Shark sizing, I fell in the medium range, just a few tenths of a cm away from being a large. When I spoke to the salesman he said I should go with a large and that is what I have done. I received the helmet today and it fits well but I feel like I can move my head a bit more than with the Arai. The difference I believe, Has to do with the shell sizes. The Shark shell is larger than the Arai shell and Shark uses more padding on the inside which would "flex" a bit more. To my actual question then, should I be able to move at all or should this fit as tightly as a new pair of racing gloves? What are the general opinions on how a helmet should feel? This is a large purchase for me and I have time to go smaller so I want so good feedback on this. Thanks | ||

My understanding is that the helmet should move in unison with your head and not flop around(left right and up down). However it shouldn't be so tight that it causes headaches or discomfort. If it feels like the helmet is going flop around when you quickly move your head then it might be too big... However there is always the chance that for you the medium might be to small. You might also call the company you ordered from and get their opinion | ||

My experience has been to get the size that moves with your head as he posted. Also it should be as snug as is comfortable. It will loosen up with time as the pads conform to your head. | ||

Ride with it for awhile and I bet it will "break-in" and conform to your head more. Seems like everything I buy related to motorcycle gear always seems tight at first, but after a few rides they break in and don't feel as tight. (Helmets, jackets, gloves, pants, etc...) | ||

Massive headaches after wearing your helmet for 10-15 minutes are OK. Also a little bleeding around the eyes is normal after wearing a helmet...just kidding obviously. | ||

You could order the medium cheek pads if you think that would help. | ||

I have always been taught that if the helmet will not continue to move in one direction as I quickly move my head in the opposite(also known as shaking from side to side), and it is not so tight to cause me to see stars, then it is probably a proper fit. You could always ride by a motorcycle shop and try it on infront of them to get another oppinion. |
