I just ordered the race kit from Buell for the Firebolt and was curious what it will sound like.

Thanks,
Hbolt

Hbolt,
The kit sounds awesome. I love the sound of my kitted XB9R. It's not nearly as loud as my '72 XLCH w/XLR race pipes, but that bike is LOUD.
The kit kit also gives a modest power gain as well. It's not dramatic, but you can definetly feel it's stronger w/kit on.
Also, I like the look of the exhaust much better too.
It seems everywhere I go on this bike I get questions and comments. Most all are positive, but last week at Newcombs Ranch up on Angeles Crest a guy in full leathers on a Gixxer asked (kind of mockingly), "So, hows the Buell running"? I proceeded to tell him how much fun I've been having, and how well the bike handles. After a couple minutes of conversation he started walking around the bike, taking a much closer look and nodding in approval. A small victory from what I'm sure was one of Buells detractors.
Anyway, put that kit on! You wont regret it.

I wonder what made the race kit over $1300.00? It retails for 619.00, that's a heck of a labor charge if that's what the additional $$ is for.
I personally don't think the race kit is loud enough! Of course I'm used to a Force pipe on my X1!

Well...a little off topic here...but Timbo it's good to see you are in the wind again after the incident with the Sport! Not much riding here...1-4" inches by tomorrow AM. BTW, I seen the orthopedist today...looks like 3 holes in my left knee with scoping.

Anyone have a sound byte of the Race Kit exhaust...be interesting to hear what a "Bolt" sounds like with it...the link above was dead for me if that included a byte.

Hbolt,
I have heard a stock XB and a kitted XB side by side. The stock one sounds anemic compared to the race kit. I thought the kitted one sounded like a motorcycle should sound. It's not loud at idle, it's throaty at part throttle, and it screams at WOT. Sounded great to me. It's certainly quieter than my D&D.

That'd be Australian dollars, not $US.

At today's exchange rate ( $1US to $1.77AU )$619 US works out to $1095.63AU. So there'd only need to be a $115US labor charge to get the price up to $1300AU.

Sounds right around reasonable to me. =)

Hi Dale,
It's great to be back in the saddle!

I'll pray all goes well with your knee. Determination in rehab is mandatory...got it!?

I'm not sure how to put up a sound bite. I guess you'd need a digital recorder. If we're lucky someone here that knows how will see this and post one.

The race kit works well enough...it sounds pretty "blatty" to me, though.

I was hesitant to get the race kit at first. I had heard a Firebolt with just the race muffler on and it really didnt sound that much different to me. Then, a guy at work got the whole kit and when I heard his, I was sold. I guess the race ECM and air filter make a difference. Bought the kit that weekend. It's alot louder than stock but not obnoxiously so. I can tell a difference in power even though thats not what I was after. Stock Firebolt had more than enought uumph to scare me a few times!

I've got a 9R with the factory race kit. I'll try to get out tomorrow and make a video or a sound clip.

I just don't have a place to post it. I don't think you can post files here, can you?

I'll look into finding someplace FREE where we can all check it out.

Looks like I might even get to go for a ride tomorrow.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

Noface, dcbrag.org might be able to help you out (just as long as the file isn't massive). Just let me know.

On another note, concerning the XB9R, I picked up one of the promotional flyers Buell did that's made up to look like a recent issue of 'Roadracing World'. It has a review of both the XB9R & 9S. One quote I liked on the 9R:

Quote:

by David Swarts
"...By the way, the only way you can drag any hard parts on the Firebolt in a corner is to crash!"

Ok, I spent about 30 minutes setting up a crude website so ya'll can check out the XB9R Race Kit sound.

I made a short MPEG movie with the 'ol digital camera. It's a big file, 5mb, so be ready for a download if your on a dial-up.

Thanks Jody. It sounds a bit quieter than the Latus did - I may have to get one in the Spring.

Did you get the word about DirecTV internet? They laid off most of their staff yesterday and are pulling the cord. I've had them for the last 2 yrs.

I missed your post when you were going to sell the Latus, I woulda traded w/ya +cash, but I was too late...

It does seem a bit quieter than the previuos Buell kits, but it's got a nice snorty tone to it. Buell'ish I guess.

Yea, I read the news about directv dsl going belly-up today. What a drag. They've been an xcellent ISP, and I've used them for about a year.

I just hope we don't get dumped to some mom and pop shop ISP. I think I'm going to look at Bellsouth next.

ANyway, hope things are good up in music city. Finer'n frog hair down this way.

L8tR,
Jody

Don,
That sounds great! I have the race exhaust on my S-1 and I have to 'short shift' in the neighborhood.....your's sounds much more reasonable. I like the sound of the kitted XB.
Thank you,
Mickey

Jody,
Thanks for putting that up. It's a good representation of the sound. IMHO it sounds best while blasting through the airport runway underpass on Spring street at about five grand on the tach under load. Sounds bitchen! and always gets a thumbs up from guys in trucks who catch up at the next light that always seems to be red.

Hello America the land of great bikes!!

Im from Sweden and I just bought a xb9s. Great looking bike I must say. Sad that I have to wait for the spring before I can ride it. One thing that I have to fix is the sound.. Ist far to quiet. Whats the price for a racekit in US and can anyone recommend a dealer. I think the system must be cheaper in your country.

Greetings from Uppsala Sweden

Göran Wiklund

PS. By the way I would be very happy if anyone could send me a soundsampel by mail!!

Göran:

Greetings from New York City.

There are several dealers who are sponsors and participate frequently on this Buell site. I'm certain that they will contact you.

There are a number of Buell riders in your area who can provide help if you need to get in contact with dealers.

I'm looking forward to hearing about that XB when the weather warms up in Sweden.
